Diary Entry – 04th May 2024

Did you know you can follow us on our journey on YouTube!!

Welcome to todays diary entry! Today has been a very very very exciting day and when they told me it was going to be a big job i didn’t think that it was going to be as big a job as it was. It was pretty much from 8am until until probably 8pm but we went out with some friends in the night time so we left at about 17:30pm. It was met with several challenges pretty much from the off really as it was not a kit that the guys were used to dealing with as id bought the kit myself from Renogy. So that was Jame’s job to try and work that out.

My roof has more solar than yours….

Whilst that was going on we managed to get them loaded on the roof of the motorhome which then brought up another problem. The way in which the wiring is set up is designed to have the panels all running in a line so the wires that connect them all are relatively short so because we had to do them in a square shape the cables were not long enough to put them together so at one point we were going to have to bond all 4 panels on the roof but only be able to connect 2 whilst we worked out a plan for being able to connect them. You know that phrase that says not all hero’s wear capes? This was one of them, one of the directors is doing up a Relay with his Mrs and he just happened to have left over so wiring and the exact connectors we needed to be able to put them all together. He shouldnt have even been in work on the day but just by chance he was in.

The roof was looking very good though and now that i knew we were going to get all 4 set up was a relief. It felt as though everytime we got onto the next thing there was another obstacle we had to try and get over. The next issue was the cabling down from the roof. The original plan was to feed the wires through the old hole where my other solar panel was set up but that had been filled up already and we couldnt go back through so that meant another hole in the roof to take the cables down.

After what felt like problem after problem i was able to leave and feel a sense of calm about the situation as all the problems were sorted now. It was just a case of setting up the bluetooth module and attaching the batteries. I was really excited to get back after our evening out so i can tinker with the app and just look at it. I dont know what half of the stuff means. I turned the 230v and put the diesel heater on just so i could see what it did to the battery. It did very little and even inside we were still getting a little solar. I cannto wait to see it in action next weekend.
