Diary Entry – 28th January 2023

Had another one of those really amazing days today, the sort that make you feel all fuzzy and gooey inside. Before I get started happy birthday to my Nan who has had a little birthday party this afternoon, us 3 here love you lots x Today started like many others in Portugal which is about 0 degrees and frosty, but as soon as the sun pokes its head over the mountains it soon warms up to about 9 or 10. Don’t worry I’m still boycotting trousers but as I stepped out of the camper today I was wearing my dry robe! I finally many to save the video from Gijon Port to Vas which I’d struggled to do that’s now scheduled on YouTube so I’m happy about that. I tried to give the boss as much of a day off as possible today, so as I was out of the camper I was cleaning bottles and sterilising them on the Jackery. We would be buggered without that thing, it is some serious piece of kit!! We have the solar panel with it as well and we use it so much. Once it gets a bit warmer in the night time we won’t need hook up which makes stuff a bit cheaper, the fridge will run off the roof solar and sterilising bottles, heating the bottles and anything else 230v will come from the Jackery.

I made a wonderful breakfast on the…… Cadac lol I love that thing. I made pancakes with chopped up pieces of bacon in. It was so so nice, the nicest ones Iv had in ages. I packed a just add water pancake mix from home so as we had been to the supermarket and picked up some chopped bacon I thought now was the perfect time to use them. By about 11am Lisa and the Wee man came out the camper and we were almost instantly surrounded by foreign women, they all must just love babies. Literally Rory must have been out of the camper for 60 seconds and she was over, Rory seemed to like her as he just smiled and slobbered at her.

To be fair to the boy he has had his best day for a little while, was waking up having nice time for a bit. Going 4 hours for a bottle, plenty of pleasant awake time. A really really good day. I will be glad when this teething debacle is over. At 3pm we had our tour of the Vineyard and wine tasting, I hate the taste of wine so I wasn’t for savouring the taste I was necking them in 1, no messing, down the hatch. I am a fussy eater, I think I have mentioned this before and I got stitch up a bit. As t the tasting there were barrels with bread, cheese and olive oil on them. I’m not for olive oil but cheese and bread I’m in!! I wolfed them down and they were lovely, after about 3 minutes the guy proceeded to tell us that it was sheep’s milk cheese, I instantly felt sick but after I’d come to terms with it I felt ok. To be fair, we have bought a pack and a bottle of wine as a momentous. They didn’t do any mild cheddar grated cheese so this will have to do!

  1. I have starred this parkup ready fir when we finally get to the Douro valley. It’s on my bucket list. The Sheep’s cheese is lovely. Our favourite cheese of Portugal is Regional, which is sheep, cow and goat. If you see it in the supermarket whilst in Portugal give it a try x
