Diary Entry – 27th February 2023

Woke up with a bit of a sore head today, the first ever gathering of the official Morocco Red Wine club went well and we stayed up until 10ish trading Tavel stories and that was good. We had a pretty decent day for weather today as well. There wasn’t any rain at all which makes a welcome change.

We are still carrying all of those tins of food do as the bread rolls are so cheap I thought now was as good time as any to start making a dent in it. So I had toasted bread roll with spaghetti on. I absolutely love tinned spaghetti. It was a proper nice little welcome treat to have that. I decided that as part of me trying to feel at ease I would immerse myself into the culture. So I walked the mile or so to the Carrefour from the site and what hit me is that Morocco is like a coin, 2 sides and totally different from the other. There is no middle, for example the campsite is next to some sea view apartments but the next road is what looks like a landfill with 20 stray dogs in it.

2 different worlds separated by 1 road. I went to the shop and carried the wee man in his carrier. He enjoyed himself and whilst walking back we saw this phenomena in the sea, because up in the mountains they’d had so much rain it turned the sea front brown. It was literally brown then 5cms further it was blue. Again, a great visual representation of what I was talking about before. We had Tagine from the site, it was very dry and the beef was on the bone, I like a saucy tagine. Last night here, I will always be grateful to the site for allowing me the platform to feel more st home here. Moving south tomorrow towards Marrakech. Should be fun.
