Diary Entry – 08th January 2024

Did you know you can follow us on our journey on YouTube!!

We had our very first ever Moroccan birthday party to attend today!! One of the first people we met when we arrived here in October, well he arrived shortly after probably early November was a great guy named Tom. Now, Tom is a Morocco Motorhoming OG and has been coming here for 20 years, often recounting tales from the days he spent in his motorhome in Agadir before this campsite was even built. He always says they were the glory days when you could just camp on the beach front before they started to ban it. It just makes you think though how some people find it taboo now to Motorhome in Morocco but imagine how taboo it would have been 20 years ago. There would have been no mobile phones; it would have been a true Motorhoming adventure with literally no contact for months on end.

Diary entry

So he was 79 yesterday and comes here every year for a few months to enjoy Motorhoming in Morocco with his Jack Russell Skye. Which is also one of my favourite dogs on the site, certainly on par with one ear anyway. Tom mentioned that in previous years when he has had a bit of a birthday party that there would have been 7 or 8 people there but due to the influx this year we had pretty much the whole restaurant full up with us all. His daughter has flown over as well who is a follower of ours before we had even met Tom. So it is a small world. The restaurant we went to was a new one that has recently opened and I had Beef Teriyaki and the meat was ok but it was fully loaded with bits and i’m not a massive fan. I had a beef one, Lisa had chicken and the Beef had a chicken burger. Fortunately for me the Beef was asleep so i ate his chicken burger as well.

In the evening we went around to Mal and Elaine’s as it was there last night on this site. We will definitely miss them as they have been great fun and shared our passion for Motorhoming. Mal is so funny, a very similar sense of humour to me which is sarcasm and bad jokes. Although to us the jokes are very good. He is so tanned you have never seen anything like it, but you could walk past there from about 11am onwards and he will be in the sun getting tanned. We couldn’t do it, we are not sun worshippers by any stretch of the imagination. I think I can last about 20 minutes in the sun then I am huffing and puffing trying to get out of it and in the shade, or retreating to our motorhome under the air conditioning.

So in the end it did feel a bit more sombre as those guys leaving will leave a big hole in the community feel of the place. Everyday pre tea drinks were held round there and that was like the meet up point. You knew that if you wanted a gossip or a bit of chit chat then that is where you could go and there would be people there, all part of the full time motorhome life we’ve embraced. Although Naieem will still be there with Arlette and those guys are some of our favourite people as well. Naieem is so funny and also like me, extremely sarcastic. He will leave once the visa has arrived and i got him hook line and sinker the other day for about 3 or 4 minutes saying that id had my visa back already and he completely fell for it. I told him they were probably keeping it because they didn’t want him to leave site and they knew he couldn’t go without it. I confessed in the end but it was absolutely brilliant, straight from the Rich Skelton playbook.
