Diary Entry – 24th February 2023

What a very very peculiar day i have had. We opted to head south today and get some more sunshine and leave Assileh. The plan was simple. Walk around the harbour, walk around the medina and get in the camper and boom. Off we go! Well, that was the plan at least. Harbour done, we then went into the medina but we ended up with an escort and a man that later turned out to be a tour guide and wanted 800dh we polited told him no chance, and gave him 450 as a gesture of goodwill. Whilst we were walking around the medina the tour guide got attacked by a man on a push bike. Honestly, he jumped off the bike grabbed the wee tour guide around the throat and pow punched him straight in the kisser. I had Rory in his baby carrier so it wasn’t like i could jump in or what ever, and probably not my place. Me and Lisa just walked off hastily. About 5 minutes later he came running towards us again and like nothing had happened but a bit of a cut on his eye. The tour guide explained it was an issue around some American tourists and a carpet. It was wild.

After all that we got into the camper and headed off down south, we had seen a campsite we liked the look of and one which had good reviews. We wanted to go onto a campsite because after the stress of the last 18 hours we just wanted a bit of piece and quiet and a bit of a rest. A to be fair a pretty decent night sleep we were up a few times in the night as there must of been 1 trillio9n dogs in the back of the car park. The drive was a bout 2 hours and the first 1 hour 49 were very calm, as we pulled off the main road we had a couple of children jump out to try and get us to stop and buy shite from them. I just carried on, i always putt he anti hijacking on my van now anyway.

We then drove through a town called Kenitra and it was horrific to drive through, the road about had 2 lanes and it was 4 across. Absolutely mental. After we got to the site we were driving round this site and i thought id recognised someone who i had served at A and E leisure. This was the man who told me you can get a ferry to Morocco, he was the reason we were here!! It is a very small world! He told me about about a beer shop which was basically someone’s house and was one of the most strangest of things id every experienced. You honestly couldn’t write it. I picked up 2 crates of Sam Miguel for….. wait for it…. wait for it…. £80. But worth every penny. We sat outside until late having a drink with the person id served before. A nice finish to a bit of a tough day. Morocco is taking its toll already. Goodnight all. Rich
