Diary Entry – 09th February 2024

Did you know you can follow us on our journey on YouTube!!

What started off as an absolute write off of a day turned out to be an absolutely fantastic one which ended with probably one of our best meals from our whole time in Morocco but more about the food later. Today we had something which we have not see properly since maybe the NEC in Birmingham in middle of October. The answer? Rain. And not just a bit I mean a lot more than we have ever seen in Morocco in all of our time combined. And when I say I mean I mean one hell of a lot of rain. Being brutally honest, it needed it as there has been hardly any since we got here so a full day of rain will have done it the world of good. What it didn’t do any good for is our weekly budget and my liver.

We knew it was going to tip it down as we had watched it on the forecast the few days prior but as it is so dry here the rain doesn’t drain away straight away so without 20 minutes of semi decent rain and there are puddles in most places not deep but deep enough to give you wet shoes. The rain started here about midday and it didn’t stop until probably 2 o’clock in the morning. I think in the end we probably had in the region of about 40 to 50mm of rain which like is a for her is a lot. I checked with Tom and he confirmed it was quite a bit of rain but not the most he had seen in a day before. He has been coming here for 20 years i always use him to gauge the severity of an event. He is my Morocco equivalent of “when records began”.

You will know what it is like being at home when it is raining all day you soon feel trapped in but if you can try and imagine what that can be like in a 7 x 2 metres metal box with 2 adults and 1 very active child. When we walked to the Hyatt last night we had arranged that we would go to the Uni Prix this afternoon and share a taxi with the Brookes to restock on our beer supplies especially with the party tomorrow so needed to replenish them. We use the same taxi driver now 95% of the time and he waits for us but id told him we needed 90 minutes today because we wanted to hit the Uni Prix, the French meat market and then id factored in a bonus 30 minutes as there is a little restaurant that sells beer in between Uni Prix and the market so we could have a few crafty pints there before getting in the taxi on the way back.

On the way back we decided to go for some food and there is a new Tapas place that has just opened so we thought we would try there and it turned out to be the best food we have had in Morocco. It was like a proper little Tapas place not just little bowls of Morocco food, I ended having wings, lots of starters. It was a little slice of Spain in Tamraght. So we spent the remainder of the evening in the restaurant eating top quality food and drinking some drinks. It was actually a brilliant day in the end and set us up for Fajitas tomorrow.
