Diary Entry – 12th June 2024

Did you know you can follow us on our journey on YouTube!!

Welcome to todays diary entry! We decided that after an extremely lazy day yesterday that we would go out and spend a few hours doing something. We get as much enjoyment whilst being on holiday of doing absolutely nothing and just relaxing whether that is swimming on the campsite or sometimes not really leaving the caravan. I am a big big believer whilst being on holiday of relaxing and spending time doing nothing. So when we got here we had no plans and just decided to take each day as it comes and make a decision in the morning of what the day has in store.

Paignton Zoo

My sister on the other hand is the polar opposite she has an almost hourly itinerary for each and every day and it is, lets put it diplomatically, like an extreme military boot camp. So we are getting in our lazy days before she arrives tomorrow with my nephews. We decided today that we were going to to Paignton Zoo and after reading some reviews my Mum opted to stay behind as it said that is wasn’t particularly wheel chair friendly and once we were there we could kind of see why the review said that.

To be really honest i didn’t really enjoy it and i can honestly say that for the first time in my entire life. It just seemed a little flat and little soulless to be honest. It said on the web that there were 2000 animals in it but i am not convinced who did the counting. We didn’t see much that was in there. It felt a little bit like it had just opened up for the season, all the bushes were quite overgrown and even between the pathways and the animal bit you always felt like you were miles away from anything and especially with the bushes in the way as well.

It was also relatively expensive to get in for what it was. We compared it to something like Chester Zoo or something like West Midlands Safari park and we found that even though those other things were more expensive they actually represented better value for money. The thing is these days is that people know the cost of everything but the value of nothing. I don’t mind spending anything on anything as long as it feels likes it is good value for money. This certainly didn’t feel like value for money to me. I think we were probably in there for a couple of hours and the we made our way back to Cofton. On the way back we came the coastal way and i always get really surprised when i see this coast and places like Torquay and Brixham are absolutely gorgeous.
