Diary Entry – 09th January 2024

Did you know you can follow us on our journey on YouTube!!

Today is our 1 year VANniversary! Celebrating our full time motorhome life, which included adventures like motorhoming in Morocco, has been absolutely thrilling! One that not many people get to make. Today is our 1 year VANniversary! Our full time Van Life 1 year year anniversary was today. We didn’t do anything for it but it was something that we were looking towards and when we first planned the trip it was supposed to last 12 months but obviously it did as we were back in the UK at the end of May. We had one of those memories from our iPhone that took us through some motorhoming memories that we have cherished over that period. As some of them are pictures that you don’t ever remember taking it made us both a bit emotional.

One thing that I noticed was that in the photos, our motorhoming family was always smiling and we always seemed so happy. Don’t get me wrong i am not oblivious to the fact that if everyone could do what we are doing that everyone would be happy all the time and having the ability to spend January, Feb and March not working also helps as you are shielded from the normal everyday stresses that winter, having a new baby and managing working life and spending time away from your spouse and child. It is also being tired; we, as a motorhoming family, have been so lucky that he has always been a good sleeper. You could have the most challenging baby in the world and if they sleep all night it is much easier to cope with. Where the best child in the world is still a challenge if you have not slept much.

The big debate we have now, especially after our epic motorhoming adventures, is how long would we keep this van for. To be fair if we do decide to throw some money into it then i wouldn’t mind keeping it for a good few years. The thing is i suppose it is how much he grows and how quick he grows and if we win lottery. We had this over 6 years, embracing the full time motorhome life, so I am hoping that it will be as good as paid off by the time we are ready for a new one. I don’t think it will depreciate much more now to be fair as it has done 65k miles so it may be on 80k or 90k by that time. There wont be many people that are too fussed about the mileage for what they will be buying it for. With the prices of motorhomes at the moment, I think you will start to see more motorhomes, like our trusty home on wheels, with a higher mileage on them. It always seems weird when people wince at the mileage, given the motorhoming adventures it represents A Fiat Ducato van you would expect to do 200k if it was a works van, so why wouldn’t you expect the same from a motorhome that’s been a part of a motorhoming family’s journey.

I was speaking to some friends on the phone this evening and mentioned how much press time the Post Office Vs Mr Bates thing is getting and my friend told me it is one of the best things he has ever seen. We have not got round to watching it yet but i love that sort of thing. He said you will spend hours shouting and swearing at your TV screen as you wont believe what you are watching! I was a bit like that with making A Murderer when that came on to Netflix that was probably and still is one of the best things i have ever seen on TV. It was absolutely captivating. And still to this date the best thing i have seen on TV.
