Welcome to todays diary entry! A whole day off. What a time to be alive. No alarms. No shows. No unpacking. No customer queries. Just space – glorious, unstructured space – which I immediately filled with… catching up on diary entries. So, not quite the relaxing, feet-up kind of day off you dream about, but still, it felt good to switch gears and get back to writing.
These diary entries are such a big part of what we do, but I’ll be honest – I’ve really struggled to find the time (and more importantly, the headspace) lately to sit down and actually do them. Between juggling shows, parenting, general life admin, and the constant whirl of our weird and wonderful lifestyle, it’s been hard to give them the attention they deserve. But I keep reminding myself why I do them – and I do believe someone out there is reading them. Probably more than a few someones, actually.

In fact, if I had to guess, I’d say we’ve had over 250,000 views across these entries and posts since we started. That’s the entire population of Stoke-on-Trent – every single person, from the oatcake lovers to the pottery enthusiasts, hypothetically having a little peek into our life.
But it doesn’t stop there.
250,000 is also:
– More than enough to fill Wembley Stadium nearly three times over.
– About 8,333 full motorhome campsites (and that’s if every pitch is taken).
– Roughly the number of cuppas the British public drinks every six minutes (yes, really).
– And just for fun, that’s a quarter of a million sausages, which would keep Rory happy for… well, quite a while.
When I look at it like that, it makes all the tapping away feel more worthwhile. These entries aren’t just memories for us – they’re tiny windows for other people into a different kind of life, and maybe even a bit of inspiration for those toying with the idea of doing things a little differently.

That said, I am way behind. Like, over 30 days behind. That’s a whole month’s worth of stories, moments, ups, downs, muddy boots, sunny pitches, tantrums, triumphs – all still waiting to be written. So I’ve decided to properly commit to catching up, ideally by the time we get to Cofton… or at the very least, by the time we get back from Cofton. I know from experience that it’s so much easier to manage one entry a day than to sit and try to bash out a dozen in one go. The batching always sounds good in theory – but in practice, it’s a full-on brain drain.
If I’m honest, I need to structure my days better in general. Not just for writing, but for everything. Work, Rory, fitness, rest… it’s all been a bit reactive lately. Take the gym, for example. I haven’t been much recently – and by “much,” I mean barely at all. I keep having that debate in my head: do I start going again properly and make it part of my routine, or do I just cancel it and save the money?
My head says cancel it.
My heart says keep going.
My muscles say “Who even are you?”
I know I’ll feel better if I move more. And I know it’s good for my mental health too – especially when life gets busy. So maybe it’s time to stop making excuses and start making a bit of space.
But for now, today was about writing. About slowing down, remembering why I do what I do, and making a little dent in the backlog. Even if no one else read these, I think I’d still write them. But knowing people do? That makes it all the sweeter.
