Welcome to todays diary entry! Saturday Surge and Rory’s Joy. Saturdays really are the make-or-break day at a show, and after a slower Friday, we were all hoping that today would be the one to bring the sales in—and thankfully, it did.
The weather had shifted a bit, bringing some welcome cloud cover and even a few light showers. It made moving the products in and out of the gazebos a bit of a nuisance, but it also had the wonderful effect of driving people into the shopping areas. Silver linings and all that.
Jen and the Dodge’s kids came down today too, which meant Rory had his partner-in-crime Lottie with him. Those two are like peas in a pod. All day they were darting between their caravan and our motorhome, playing with inflatable balls, giggling through the live music, and just being kids in their own little camping world. It’s magic watching them form these friendships.

Rory always says the same thing whenever he spends time with the girls: “I had a nice time with Annie and Lottie.” And it melts your heart every time. Annie, being a bit older now, has that teenage coolness creeping in, but Lottie is still all in with Rory—tackles, hugs, and all. Every morning, she’s straight over to check if he’s awake. It’s the kind of bond that’s hard to come by and even harder to replicate.
Amongst all the chaos of running a retail tent at a show, it’s these little moments that remind you why it’s all worth it. The freedom, the flexibility, the chance to create a life that lets our kids play in fields, make friends on campsites, and grow up around laughter and love—it’s priceless. And we never take that for granted. We’re constantly grateful to the Dodge and the opportunities he’s given us to live this life. There’s a lot of hustle, sure, but it comes with so many moments of pure joy.

Sales today were definitely stronger, and it’s put us in a much better place going into Sunday. We also get the added advantage of being able to trade fully, or as much as we want on the Monday as well which is a novelty in itself. So we have probably a day and half of trading left. I imagine Monday being one of those weird days where we could either do quite a bit of business or loads. Time will tell but we have Sunday in the way before we can talk about Monday.
