Welcome to todays diary entry! Today I found myself reflecting on just how lucky we are to be able to work the way we do. Yes, the long hours and endless jobs during the season can be a bit much at times—but it’s that same hard graft that gives us the chance to escape for winter, and spend time somewhere like Morocco.

Our time there feels like a bit of a dream now, looking back. Those warm, golden sunsets in Agadir, the colours and chaos of the souks, and the absolute magic of watching Rory play on beaches that stretched for miles. We had days where we did nothing but walk through dusty little towns, sit outside cafés drinking mint tea, and chat to locals who didn’t speak our language but somehow understood everything. The pace of life there is just… different. Slower. More intentional. And it seeps into you in a way that stays long after you’ve left.

We’ve made some incredible memories—like waking up in the shadow of the Atlas Mountains, watching camels trot past our motorhome like it’s the most normal thing in the world. Or the nights we camped under the stars with nothing but the sound of the wind and the occasional dog barking in the distance. Rory absolutely thrived over there—running free, soaking up sunshine, never once picking up a cold. It’s hard not to compare it to the UK winter, where he seems to constantly have a runny nose!

Taghazout, Essaouira, and Merzouga all hold a special place in our hearts now. Whether it was the surfy, laid-back vibe of Taghazout or the magical, maze-like streets of the medina in Essaouira, each place gave us something we didn’t even know we needed. And Merzouga—what a place that is. There’s something about being right on the edge of the Sahara, with dunes rising up behind your pitch, that puts everything into perspective. It’s humbling, grounding, and honestly, a bit surreal.

What makes it even more special is knowing that every long day in the shop, every late night tidying the showroom, every weekend worked flat out—it all contributes to making those winters possible. It’s a trade-off, and it’s one we’re more than happy to make. Because when we’re there, we’re together. We slow down, we live more simply, and we make memories that will last a lifetime.

It’s the contrast that makes it work. The fast-paced, intense season that pushes us to our limits, followed by that period of calm and sunshine where everything softens. Morocco gave us the space to breathe, to connect, and to reset. It reminded us why we work so hard and what it is we’re working for.

And now, as we throw ourselves into the madness of another busy season, it’s those memories that keep us going. The freedom we’ve created through this lifestyle isn’t always easy—but it’s always worth it. The sunsets, the people, the simplicity—those moments are the reward. And every time we think it’s all getting too much, we just have to picture that golden light over the dunes and remember what’s waiting at the end of the tunnel.
