Today was the day we finally went to Africa! We had an alarm set for 6:30am but Rory woke at 5am for his bottle so we ended up going back to bed and set the alarm for 8!
Given we had to be at the port for 8:45am I was feeling a bit apprehensive about getting there on time. We had however had enough bottles already sterilised so a boil of the kettle and quick pack down was all that was needed.
After a slight mishap with my (Lisa) navigation skills we got to the port for just gone 9. The whole process of boarding and landing was very straightforward. I was expecting a lengthy delay with border control checks and what have you but by 1pm we were already at the shops to pick up our Moroccan SIM cards. The queue for the cards took longer than border control!
We were originally going to head to Tangier but the two park ups we had picked out were right at the sea front and would have required us to travel right through the city so we decided to swerve that and head West straight to the coast ahead of making our way South to Essaouira. We found a park up in a little town called Asilah. Asilah is a small little beach town, with a cool medina which we had a chance to explore a dome of today. I saw some cool dresses and it was full of colourful doorways and buildings.
After more than 30k steps exploring Gibraltar yesterday I’m absolutely shattered. We did however still manage to clear out and tidy up the camper. From here on super organisation will have to rule! We’re just about to sample some traditional Moroccan food which I’ll tell you all about tomorrow! Rory ofc has taken all the travelling in his stride and has now been to 8 countries! I’m really looking forward to tomorrow where we’re going to check out the beach xx Lisa
