Welcome to todays diary entry! Today is the main event—the day that can make the difference between an average show and a truly great one. If you can maximise it, Saturday is the crown jewel of the entire week, and I was determined to make the most of it. With that in mind, I was in the hall just after 8 AM when the doors opened, wanting to get myself in the zone and ready to hit the ground running as soon as the crowds started coming in.
The good news? I absolutely smashed it. Without a doubt, this was my best day of the show so far. From almost 10 AM onwards, it was nonstop. At times, I had three customers at once signing order forms and handing over deposits. There’s no better feeling than knowing that all the hard work, the preparation, and the early mornings are paying off. The energy was relentless, and by the time I took 10 seconds to breathe, it was already just after 5 PM—just like that, the day was gone in a blur of conversations, demonstrations, and deals. It felt like I barely had time to take a sip of water, let alone process how well things were going in the moment. When you’re that busy, you don’t even have time to think—you’re just in the zone, moving from one deal to the next.

Working outdoor events like Dubbed Out and Camper Jam in the past has definitely helped when it comes to managing multiple customers at once. There’s an art to it—juggling conversations, making sure no one feels ignored, keeping the energy up, and making sure each sale is moving forward smoothly. It’s one thing to sell to one person, but when you’ve got several people waiting and you’re trying to close multiple deals at the same time, that’s when experience really kicks in. It’s like a mental juggling act—gauging who’s ready to buy, who needs a little more convincing, and who’s just browsing, all while keeping the energy up and staying engaged with everyone at once. It’s exhausting, but when you get it right, it’s exhilarating.

One thing I couldn’t help but think about was Roger. A year ago, he was on the Dometic stand and had a fantastic show, absolutely smashing his sales numbers. Today, I’m one good day away from possibly beating him. I am extremely competitive, and to even be in contention for the best awning sales performance in our company’s history is a huge deal. To take that title from Roger—who has been something of a role model and mentor to me—would mean a lot. He’s the gold standard, and if I can beat him, even just once, it’s something I’ll be reminding him of for a long time!
I have been bringing it up to him, letting him know I’m getting close, but whenever I ask him for his final number from last year, he suddenly “can’t remember” what he did. I reckon that’s his way of making sure I don’t have an actual number to beat—he knows how focused and driven I can be, and I think he’s keeping his cards close to his chest. It’s funny, really—he knows that if he gave me a number, I’d make it my mission to surpass it, so instead, he’s keeping me in suspense. Either way, tomorrow is the last day, and if I can replicate today’s momentum, I just might do it.
After such a manic day, we kept the tradition alive and went out for our usual team meal on the Saturday night. This time, we headed to Miller & Carter for steaks and red wine, which is always one of the highlights of the show. There’s something about sitting down, unwinding, and celebrating a strong day that makes the exhaustion a little easier to deal with. The steaks were spot on, and after a week of grabbing food on the go and barely having time to sit down, it felt like a well-earned reward. The conversation was mostly a mix of sales chat, laughs, and everyone trying to keep their eyes open long enough to finish their meal. After the week we’ve had, we were all running on fumes, but spirits were high, and you could feel the buzz of a successful day across the table.
Now, just one day left. One final push. Let’s see what tomorrow brings!
