Welcome to todays diary entry! What is wild is just how you can not come to a place for a couple of years and then within about 5 minutes feels like you have never been away. Essaouira is one of my favorite places here and unlike Marrakech is much more laid back and the Medina is absolutely lovely. I will come onto that later though and i will take you through the start of the day. We did not want to be driving in the dark so we planned to set off around first light which was 08:30 we had packed most of the car last night but with some last minute additions this morning for example my large power bank in case phone ran out of battery and we needed it for sat nav.

I also threw some bottles of juice in the back as well and included some water. I am glad we decided to have an early night and i was a little anxious this morning about being a passenger in a car for a couple of hours. I decided to keep the beer count down last night so as to not enhance any potential feeling of travel sickness. Although i never felt too bad actually which once again adds more meat to the bone about it being shorter trips and not having the sat nav so i can see how far away we are and stuff like that. Another thing as well as this is the first time (except taxis) i have been a passenger so it was nice to be able to really look around and see the scenery and see what is actually going on.

One thing that never ceases to amaze me is the wildness of some of the driving on display from some of the locals it is truly eye opening. The only thing more spectacular than that is the scenery along most of the route. Especially the first bit where you are just driving along the coast and it is so so so pretty down here. The drive to Essaouira was about 180 minutes by the time we had stopped and put some diesel in and done a coffee break at a cliff side “Starbucks”. We parked right by the Medina and having parked up nor more than 30 seconds of being there id paid 20dhm (£1.60) for parking and 30dhm (£2.40) to get the car washed whilst we were away. So £4 for parking and a car wash right at the main attraction which in the UK would probably cost around £50 including the car wash.

I was starving so we went and stopped for some food nearby and had an interesting take on a Tagine but one that me and Lisa have talked about for a while now which is chips with the Tagine, but this was meat, sauce and a big handful of chips on top and it was still quite saucy which is how we like it. SO it was really good quality. Mandy just loves shopping so for her to get into this Medina with its more laid back approach she was in her element. We picked up our final few gifts for Christmas for Rory and i finally got round to purchasing an arab style woolen jacket and a matching one for Rory as well.
