Diary Entry – 21st August 2024

Did you know you can follow us on our journey on YouTube!!

Welcome to todays diary entry! The gaffer returns in 1 week and it is going to take some time to get the shop into a place where i want it to be before he gets back but it will be done by the time he gets back and one thing i have really enjoyed is being able to get an insight into the real nuts and bolts of the shop. We have several different systems so i have really enjoyed getting a real visibility into it. It has felt a little bit like the dream job i wanted in my twenties which was to be a call Centre consultant and to go into different call center’s and see where improvements could be possibly made.

Just a baby loving his cones

I would go as far now as to say that i pretty much understand the shop now perhaps not the systems so much as they are technical but i have probably learnt double system wise since the Dodge has been away. What i do no now is individual performance currently, i know where we are strong and where we are weak i also have a little plan on how i think we can improve things and make us way more efficient. In summer a lot of it is just trying to keep your head above water with how busy it is.

Ideally this time of year now is when we start to build the foundations and get ourselves back up to date with the warehouses and with stuff like admin and stock checks. To get straight ready for when it all starts again. The online season for me will carry on longer and will probably last into early to mid November. There are still deals to be done at that time of year but they are fewer a further in between but i am really optimistic for the autumn and winter. We have been quite lucky this year as we have had quite a good year.

Although i think some places in the industry have really struggled this year. Especially people that trade in caravans and motorhomes i think someone mentioned to me that for every 1 caravan sold they are selling 2 motorhomes so i wouldn’t like to be a deal with lots of caravans sat on the forecourt. Obviously despite being competitor’s we wouldn’t wish ill on anyone and hope that they all make it through the winter. Although i am absolutely certain that there will be others that will follow the likes of leisure outlet, Broad Lane and Robinsons Caravans as well. But like i said i wouldn’t wish ill on any of them.
