Diary Entry – 20th July 2024

Did you know you can follow us on our journey on YouTube!!

Welcome to todays diary entry! Today was a day of several ups and downs, mainly ups but there were some downs. The weather was relatively poor but i think on Saturday is was due to be poor everywhere when we were looking at potentially going down south even they had a bit of rain forecast in the afternoon so we knew what we were in for. We were just super lucky that we got to have that time yesterday on Arisaig in the sun, to be fair those little beaches were the sole reason we have came. It has always been a buckey list thing of Lisa so im glad we got a bit of nice weather for it.

Dunvegan Waterfalls

I will start with the lows…. or the low to be honest. It last later on in the afternoon and we had just been to Dunvegan Castle which wasn’t the best castle in the world, more of a garden with a bit of a house on it. Not worth the money in my opinion but never the less it was an experience that i can say that i have done. We couldn’t decide between going to a pub stopover or staying wild for another night but in the end we decided we would find a pub stop over and have some food and a few drinks. We must have tried 6 or 7 pubs all explaining that we wanted food and drinks but each one turned us down. They almost seemed to turn there nose up at the thought. That put a bit of a dampener on it for me as you always hear about how accommodating Scotland etc is for motorhomers. This certainly didnt feel like it.

In the end we found a place that have a car park about 30 meters down the road and this is where things started to go great again. We ended up dropping on what is probably the best park up in the whole of Skye, on our itinerary was a visit to Talisker Distillery anyway and the carp parking was just by it but it was facing out over one of the lochs and it was just absolutely stunning. It must be the best in the whole of Skye it was just incredible.

We had done a mini tour of Skye and visited Portree as well which is the island capital, there wasn’t much there to be honest just rows of fish and chips. I think if i came back to Skye again i would stay on that park up and use that as a base and travel to and from everywhere from there. It was £10 for the night and then if you wanted to stay and park for the day it was another £5. I just don’t get why everyone with a bit of tarmac isn’t doing the campervan/ motorhome thing. There is so so so so much money to be made. That got the cogs turning in my mind.

The pub we came for food was great as well and this was the frustrating is that across whisky, drinks and food we spent £140 but that was not good enough for some places. I tried several whiskys in the end and i have decided that i really dont like whisky and i am not sure whisky likes me.
