Welcome to todays diary entry! Another good day today, but I’m trying not to get carried away. The real test is still to come at the weekend, which is always the busiest time at these shows. When it comes to footfall, the days tend to follow a bit of a pattern—Saturday and Sunday are the busiest by far, followed by Tuesday, then Friday, Thursday, and finally Wednesday, which is always the quietest. Knowing that, you go into Thursday without too much pressure, especially if Tuesday has been solid, and you’ve had a decent run so far. Even with that in mind, I still finished today on good numbers, which is always a positive. Every sale counts, and having that steady flow of conversations and deals ticking over makes all the difference.

One of the biggest challenges of these shows is keeping the momentum going throughout the quieter days. When the halls aren’t as busy, it’s easy to slip into a lull, but you have to stay switched on. There’s always someone coming through who might be ready to buy, and you don’t want to miss an opportunity just because you weren’t in the right mindset. It’s all about reading the room, knowing when to push a little harder and when to step back and let people browse without pressure.
Tonight, we went out for tea as a team and headed over to TGI Fridays at Resorts World by the NEC. It was good to unwind a bit, have a couple of pints, and grab some food, but the tiredness is really hitting now. These long days are catching up with me, and it’s getting harder to switch off and properly relax in the evenings. You push through because that’s just how these events work, but I can feel the exhaustion creeping in. There’s something about being constantly “on” all day—talking, standing, thinking about the next move—that leaves you completely drained by the time evening rolls around.

I’ve also started thinking about next week already. The second this show finishes, we’re straight back into it at the shop. We’ve got a new starter coming in, plus an in-store show lined up, which means there’s not going to be any time for a break. No days off, no chance to catch up on sleep—just straight back into the madness. Right now, I’m just taking it a day at a time, not thinking too far ahead, because if I do, it starts to feel a bit overwhelming. I know I’ll be running on fumes by the end of next week, but that’s just part of it. The key is pacing myself and not burning out before the weekend rush even starts.
One thing that’s keeping me in good spirits is knowing how far I’ve come since the last time I did this show. 18 months ago, my experience at the Motorhome and Caravan Show was a difficult one, and I definitely felt the pressure coming into this one. I put a lot of expectation on myself, and I hate the thought of letting people down—especially Roger, who has always done so much for me and the family. The last thing I’d ever want is to disappoint him, so I’ve been pushing myself hard to make sure this show is a success. So far, it’s going well, and that’s a massive relief.
The team has been solid as well, which makes a huge difference. When you’re surrounded by people who know what they’re doing and who all have the same goal in mind, the days run a lot smoother. There’s a good mix of laughter and graft, which helps keep spirits up even when tiredness kicks in. We’re all feeling it now, but the end is in sight, and we know the busiest, most rewarding days are still to come.
Tomorrow’s Friday, which should pick up a bit in terms of sales and energy in the halls. Just got to keep the momentum going and power through to the weekend—almost there!
