Welcome to todays diary entry! Another day at Blakemere today, though I’ve been in work for most of it. I’m toying with the idea of staying another night here—one more chance to soak in the peace and quiet, and maybe have another day off tomorrow before heading back home properly. It’s hard to leave when the surroundings are this good and everything feels that little bit slower-paced.
The weather has been absolutely brilliant here—bright blue skies and that kind of fresh spring chill in the morning that wakes you up better than any coffee. There’s still a real bite in the air early on, with a decent bit of frost covering the grass, but once the sun climbs a bit, it turns into a really beautiful day. Crisp, clean and just what you need to feel recharged.

Jen came down today to help me measure the fields ready for the big Blakemere show. That was the main job for the day—checking dimensions, marking out likely spaces, and starting to get a sense of how everything’s going to come together. It’s creeping up on us fast now, and there’s still a lot to do, so getting out on the ground and visualising it properly felt like a good step. There’s something satisfying about standing in the open space where the show will be and picturing how it’ll look with all the awnings up, the stands full, people wandering about, and everything in full swing.
After we’d finished measuring up, Lisa had the kettle on and was ready with a brew and a sausage sandwich—top-tier service as always. It was the perfect little moment—sun shining, hands warming around a cuppa, and the smell of sausages lingering in the air. It’s those little comforts that make all the difference and remind you that no matter how busy things get, there’s always time for five minutes of normality.

The show is definitely on my mind more and more now. I’m trying not to let the pressure creep in, but when you’ve put this much time and effort into something—and so many people are backing you—you just really want it to be a success. We’ve been lucky with the weather this week, and I’m hoping that’s a sign of things to come. A nice dry spell during the show would make a huge difference, especially since we haven’t got the built-in footfall of a festival event.
Rory has been loving it here. Unlimited access to the park has meant he’s had the best time running about and exploring. What’s been really noticeable is how much better he is at walking with us now. He used to just bolt off in the opposite direction without a second thought, but these days he’s starting to follow along a bit more willingly—which makes life a lot easier when you’re out and about. Watching him grow up a little bit more every day, in places like this, just adds to the whole experience.
If I do decide to stay another night, I think it’ll be well worth it. Just a little more time to enjoy the calm before the chaos kicks back in.
