Welcome to todays diary entry! A day off—finally! After the past few weeks, it was long overdue. We went to my sister’s last night for my nephew Oliver’s birthday party, and it was really lovely to catch up with everyone, have a couple of beers, and just slow down for an evening. Rory was in his element chasing Daisy the dog around all night—he absolutely loves dogs and spent most of the party running around after her giggling like mad. It’s always great when you can be around family without feeling rushed, and just take time to be present in the moment.
This morning started off gloriously bright—fresh but full of promise. The sun was shining, and it actually felt like spring might be making an appearance. That kind of crisp morning where the sky is blue, the grass is still damp, and it makes you feel like getting outside and making the most of the day. The kind of morning that lifts your mood without even trying, just because it reminds you that warmer, lighter days are on the way.

Even though I was technically off, I did nip into work first thing to wait for the Outdoor Revolution parcel that was supposed to arrive before 12:50. Of course, it didn’t show up until later in the day, so I ended up hanging around a bit longer than planned. Still, these things happen, and at least it arrived eventually. You try to plan your day around these things and when they run late, it throws things off—but I’ve learned to just roll with it now.
While I was waiting, I decided to make the most of the time and headed to the gym for a session. I’ve been slowly building up my running over the last few weeks, and today I managed a sub-40-minute 5K, which I was absolutely chuffed with. It’s been a while since I’ve had that kind of win in the gym, and it definitely gave me a buzz.
Hitting that milestone felt like a real achievement considering how far I’ve come, and it reminded me that consistency does pay off. My next goal is to get down to the 30-minute mark—still a bit of a way off, but I’m gradually increasing the speed each session to keep chipping away at it. It’s been really good having something outside of work to aim for and track progress on. It clears the head, helps keep the stress in check, and gives me something personal to focus on.

Lisa topped the day off by making a homemade pie—which was unreal. Proper hearty, delicious, comfort food. One of those meals that just makes you want to sit back, sigh contentedly, and forget about everything else for a little while. There’s something about a homemade meal when you’re on a campsite that just hits different.
It’s that mix of home comforts and a peaceful setting that creates a bit of magic. We decided to stay another night at Blakemere Touring Park too, which meant I could soak up a bit more of the atmosphere and wind down properly. Blakemere has this really peaceful vibe in the evening. Once the day visitors clear out and the sun starts to set, it’s just the sound of the breeze through the trees and the odd murmur from other campers—perfect way to round off a day off.
It’s days like today that remind me why we do what we do. Yes, it’s busy, and yes, it’s relentless at times—but moments like these, where we can pause and enjoy the life we’ve built, make it all worthwhile. Being able to mix work and lifestyle like this is something we don’t take for granted. These moments of peace between the hustle are what keep the wheels turning when the next big job rolls in.
