Welcome to todays diary entry! Up bright and early this morning with some pre-show jitters. No matter how many of these shows I do, there’s always that mix of excitement and nerves before the doors open. There’s so much riding on these events, and you always want to get off to a strong start. The first day sets the tone for the rest of the week, and I knew today was going to be a big one.

Roger and Nath were due to arrive at the NEC at 8 AM, having driven up from Northwich this morning instead of staying overnight. I made sure to get up early, heading down for breakfast around 7 AM. Another full English—fuel for what was going to be a long, busy day. I wanted to be in the hall the moment it opened at 8 AM, get myself a good spot on the stand, make some final tweaks, and get my head in the game before the doors officially opened.

There’s something about those early morning hours in the exhibition hall before the public comes in. The place has a quiet hum to it—people rushing around to make final adjustments, exhibitors making last-minute tweaks to their displays, the distant sound of forklifts beeping as they finish moving stock. It’s a strange mix of calm and chaos. I was hoping that by being early and putting in the effort to help with the final setup, I’d build up some good karma—maybe it would translate into plenty of sales throughout the day.

Thankfully, it did. I ended the day feeling like I’d done well. Tuesday is always one of the busiest days at these shows, with plenty of foot traffic and lots of interested customers stopping by for a chat. You have to make the most of it because Wednesday and Thursday tend to be quieter. A strong start on Tuesday gives you a good footing for the rest of the week. If you can get some solid sales in on the first day, it takes a bit of the pressure off for the days ahead.

That being said, by the time we wrapped up for the day, I was absolutely shattered. The combination of the early start, being on my feet all day, and constantly talking to people had drained me completely. I could feel the exhaustion creeping in, and I knew I was going to need a good night’s sleep to do it all over again tomorrow.

To make things tougher, Rory is still really poorly, and it’s been a struggle. He had another bad night last night, which meant Lisa spent most of the day in the hotel room with him instead of being able to enjoy the show. It’s not ideal, and I hate seeing him unwell, especially when we’re all so busy. Hopefully, tonight brings a bit of luck, and he finally manages a proper rest so we can all recharge a bit.

A long week ahead, but at least we’ve got off to a strong start. Now, just need to keep the momentum going!
