Welcome to todays diary entry! Survived one day of the solo weekend in the shop—thank goodness! I won’t lie, I was a bit worried about how today would go, but we got through it. It’s been really busy, with a steady flow of customers most of the day, but thankfully I had a bit of help. Trish was great, as always, and Gary and his wife Lisa kindly stayed behind to lend a hand. That extra support really made the difference—it’s amazing what a team effort can do even on a day that could’ve easily turned into complete chaos. I definitely owe them one.

It was one of those days where you barely get a moment to breathe, let alone sit down. But I actually don’t mind that kind of busy—it keeps your mind active, keeps the energy up, and you get that real sense of purpose from helping so many customers. People are starting to come in with clear buying intentions now, too. It’s less browsing, more “we’ve got a trip coming up and we need this, this, and this.” That’s when you know the season is properly kicking off.

Unfortunately, the good vibes didn’t quite carry over to the football. Stoke lost again—though apparently we were absolutely robbed. Standard. Every game feels like a nail in the coffin at this point, and relegation is looming larger and larger. Honestly though, as I said the other day, I think it might be what we need. Bit of a reality check, clear out, rebuild and go again. Still hurts to watch it happen, though. You keep hoping for that little glimmer of hope, but it’s getting dimmer by the week.

On a brighter note, my sister has taken Oliver to Disneyland for his birthday and the pictures look amazing. He turns another year older on Monday, and I think he’s had the best birthday weekend possible. Seeing his face light up in those photos reminds me how important those magical moments are when they’re young. It’s definitely planted the seed for us—Rory might be a bit too small for it all just yet, but it’s definitely on our list. That and Lapland to see Santa. I think he’d absolutely love it once he’s a bit older. There’s something about watching your kids enjoy the experiences you dreamed of when you were little that just hits differently.

I want him to grow up with those core memories that stick with him into adulthood. It’s not about spending loads of money or doing something extravagant every weekend—it’s about those few big experiences that shape your childhood. Watching fireworks over a castle, meeting Mickey Mouse, or seeing Santa in the snow. That’s the good stuff. We’ll get there, and it’ll be even better when he’s the perfect age to take it all in.

The weather’s taken a proper nosedive this week. That nice bit of warmth we had last week has vanished, and it’s been bitterly cold today. Not wet, thankfully—that’s one small win—but that crisp, icy air that gets into your bones. I’ve got to say though, I don’t actually mind the proper cold. I quite like the fresh air, the need for a decent jacket, and that sense of winter still hanging on. What I can’t stand is the wind and rain. That’s what really does me in. Which, let’s be honest, is one of the reasons we choose to spend winters in Agadir. Blue skies, light breezes, warm sand under your feet—it’s hard to beat. Days like today remind me just how much sense that move makes.

And now, with just three weeks to go until the Blakemere show, it’s all starting to feel very real. The countdown is well and truly on. We’ve put so much effort into planning it and the support from manufacturers this year has been huge. I just really hope the footfall matches the effort. We want people to come, see what’s on offer, and for the brands to leave thinking, “Yep, we’ll be back next year.”

It’s hard not to feel the pressure creeping in a bit now. When you’ve got names backing you, stands being built, stock committed, you want to make sure it lands. All we can do is keep pushing, keep preparing, and hope that when the gates open, it all falls into place. Fingers, toes, and everything else crossed. There’s a lot riding on it—but if we pull it off, it’ll be worth every single bit of graft we’ve put in.
