Welcome to todays diary entry! First proper day of getting the stands set up, and it was straight into it from the get-go. The first few hours were all about unloading and organising, and within minutes, I could tell I hadn’t been very active over the last few months. Lifting, shifting, moving stock, and setting up banners—my arms and legs were feeling it pretty quickly. Shows like this take a lot out of you, and after months of enjoying a more relaxed pace, I definitely feel out of practice.

One of the best things about setting up is getting to meet new people in the industry. There’s always a mix of familiar faces and fresh ones, and it’s a great chance to build connections before the doors open to the public. Everyone’s in the same boat, trying to get their stands ready in time, so there’s a real team effort vibe. It’s easy to get caught up in the stress of making everything perfect, but having a laugh with others who are in the trenches with you makes it all much more enjoyable.

I started off in Hall 1, helping get things into place, but after dinner, I ended up over in Hall 4 working on setting up caravan awnings. It’s funny how you always seem to get pulled into different jobs at these events—one minute you’re unpacking boxes, the next you’re stretching out awnings and making sure they look just right. It’s a lot of work, but it’s satisfying seeing everything come together, knowing that in a few days, the halls will be buzzing with people checking it all out. We have 3 days set up before selling on the stand for 6 days so it is a long old few days about it.
While all this was going on, poor Rory was starting to come down with a cold. He hasn’t been sleeping well, which means we haven’t been sleeping well either. It’s tough seeing him unwell, especially when we’ve got such a busy schedule ahead, but we’ll just have to power through and make sure he gets plenty of rest where we can. Hopefully, he shakes it off quickly so we can all enjoy the show without feeling completely run down.
By the end of the day, I was absolutely shattered. Eight hours of lifting and shifting after months of not doing much physical work really took its toll. But that’s part of the game with these shows—long days, sore muscles, and a lot of effort. It’s all worth it, though, and I know that once the show starts, the buzz and excitement will make it all worthwhile. For now, though, I just need a good night’s sleep before we go again tomorrow!
