Welcome to todays diary entry! Today was a special day for us all. As my sister was here she has already provided a several page itinerary for the activities for the day which involved being out of the Static by 9am this morning. Although due to the cider being consumed the night before my brother in law was running behind schedule complaining of “feeling old” nothing to do with the Thatchers Premium 8.3% cider only because of the extra day under his belt. So we ended up leaving the static at about 10am as we were headed to Dawlish Warren beach.

Me, the Beef and the Sneaky Fox

Today was a day that had significance for a number of reasons some of them brilliant and some of them not so. This was my Mums first trip out in her wheel chair. We were in the motorhome so we couldn’t park close enough to the beach so we had to park the other side of the train track and with my Mums breathing as it is there is no way she could walk all that way and the bottom of the sea front and back again. It just wasn’t feasible so as we had borrowed a wheel chair from the Dougie Mac we took it along and popped her in it.

I don’t think my Mum was a huge fan for a number of reasons but i think the main one was a sense of giving into to something that your constantly trying to battle subconsciously. When you are trying to battle something like MND and it must feel like a losing battle and to concede ground such as this must feel like an element of acceptance and an element of retreat but i guess it is just a balance all the time between doing stuff and getting out and sticking 2 fingers up to the disease and just always battling to try and do what you can when you can. I am also an idiot and think there was an element of fear in there that she was going to fall out or be accidentally tipped out. Not that would be done on purpose but if you hit a curb or a stone and the momentum sends you flying.

So me, my Mum, Lisa, Beef, My sister, 2 nephews, brother in law and Daisy the dog walked along the beach front together in the gale force winds and watched the dog play in the sea and it was one of those really nice moments. It was one of those moments that could only be beaten by ice cream and Nutella waffles. It may be the last time we get to go out on that beach front, somewhere we have all been many times together. SO another one of those special memories for the memory box.
