Welcome to todays diary entry! Had an absolutely action packed day today, pretty much non stop throughout the whole of the day. So let me start from the beginning and I will take you through it. We had all had such an early night the night before so we were up relatively early and to be honest we are struggling to come to terms with the cold weather. Having been out of it for such a long time it has taken longer to get use to it than what i thought. Although, saying that we have had nice weather since we arrived but this morning was noticeably colder than i can remember being for over 6 months.
Despite promising ourselves we were going to be thrifty and watch the pennies and doing a shop yesterday we decided that we would go up the top to get some breakfast and to let the Beef get some energy expended so he was straight into the soft play and rolling around and pushing stuff over like kids do. The breakfast was the same today as it had been previous day. Whilst we were at breakfast we got talking about how nice the carvery was when we were here last time and how long it was since we have had a carvery, probably again, 6 months since we were here last time. SO that was it, i was at the counter booking us on for the Sunday carvery. Which i am sure you can imagine being here is not cheap.

I also thought that there is no better way to build up your hunger for a carvery than to go swimming so we booked on that as well. So we ate breakfast and made our way back down to the Moho to get stuff packed up ready for the afternoon. On the way down the Beef fell asleep so we had to delay all activities by 60 minutes. He either seems to sleep for an hour or for 3 hours. There is no in-between, there is no consistency to it, he literally just until he wants then chaos ensues. Now i was going to try and give Cofton a chance today and not moan about it but at the Carvery i had the most Cofton experience ever. So i got to the carvery and let me tell you i was absolutely buzzing to be there. The guy behind the food says “Here are the meats, what would you like? you can have 2 slices of meat”. I am not sure whether things have changed over the last 6 months whilst we have been out of the country and i know you can not have 8 slices of meat but normally if there is 4 meats out you can ask for a little bit of each one. I have never seen it before where they stipulate how many slices you can have. I found that strange.
To be fair, this was a bit of a turning point for me because the more i thought about it the more i realise it isn’t the front line staff that make the decisions and make the rules. Although they have to take the brunt of the people who are feeling aggrieved by the poor service due to being understaffed. I couldn’t decide between the beef or the Turkey and he said “you know what, i will do you a bit of each because you are so excited about the carvery!”. That was followed by a “i tell you what as well, have a couple of pigs and blankets, no one has really bought any of these today”. I told him that was such a rare thing to experience here and he just smiled at me. He didnt say anything back, just smiled but i knew what he was thinking. I later overheard him say that he was leaving because the bosses expect too much from people there and he cannot take it much longer.
There for me lies the problem. I don’t mind spending anything on anything as long as it represents value. Cofton is very expensive which is fine because it is beautiful and i really want to love it there. The problem is they are trying to charge top whack for everything, whilst scrimping on everything which annoys the customers. The customers cvent there frustration at the staff who are treated poorly (in my opinion) and they then leave. They then are understaffed because i imagine it is a difficult place to get staff in. So they then put more pressure on the existing staff. The key is to keep your staff happy, it is no secret that happy bees make tasty honey. With happy staff your attrition is low, you keep your best people and everyone wins. Literally everyone wins.
Although it appears to me that staff happiness is valued far far less than profit.
**Please note that i am sure that many people go to Cofton and give it incredible reviews. These are only my personal opinion. I have a holiday booked already for June but i do fear that may be my last time here. Which is gutting.
