Welcome to todays diary entry! The lads are off on a course with Isabella—the awning manufacturer—for the next couple of days, so it’s just me holding the fort. I don’t really mind it, to be honest. There’s something oddly satisfying about being left to your own devices, cracking on with what needs doing, and getting into the zone. I sat down at my desk at 7:40 this morning and the next time I properly looked at the clock, it was 16:53. One of those days where time just disappears, and you get into a proper rhythm. The type of day where you’re so in it that even lunch becomes a bit of an afterthought.

Of course, when half the team are away, things tend to feel a little heavier. There’s no safety net, no quick “can you just…” to throw something someone else’s way. It’s all on you. But that’s not always a bad thing. You get stuck in, stop overthinking and just plough through.
With how flat-out we were in February, the dispatch side of things has ended up a bit behind. Nothing disastrous, but definitely not where we’d want it to be. It’s the sort of backlog that starts small but can snowball quickly if it’s not nipped in the bud. So tonight, after work, me, Joe, and Odette stuck around for a bit and came up with a game plan to get on top of it all.
We even had a little beer together while we talked it all through—sometimes the best ideas happen when you take the edge off a bit and just talk honestly. It wasn’t some big formal meeting—just three people who care about the business, sat around having a drink and figuring it out.

It’s one of the things I love about our team—we might get stressed, but we always figure it out. There’s no drama, no throwing toys out of prams. We just talk straight, get on with it, and look out for each other in the process.
I really believe that having a strong relationship between the management team is absolutely vital. There’s no room for egos or “that’s not my job” mentalities when things get tough. And to be fair, I couldn’t do what Joe or Odette do. Their understanding of systems and processes, the way they keep things ticking behind the scenes—it puts me to shame.
I can sell anything, I’ll talk to people all day long, close deals, drive momentum, but when it comes to the back-end stuff, those two are wizards. I’m in awe of the way they spot things before they become problems and just quietly solve them without a fuss. That kind of work often goes unnoticed, but it’s absolutely essential.
We’ve worked out a plan that should get us back on track over the next few days, and I’m confident it’ll work. It just means a bit of graft from all sides, but that’s nothing new. We’re all used to rolling our sleeves up when the pressure’s on. That’s part of what makes the team tick—we don’t point fingers, we just get it done. The fact we can laugh while doing it makes all the difference too.
It’s days like today that remind me how lucky I am to be surrounded by people who care just as much about the business as I do. It’s not just about numbers or sales—it’s about pride in what we do, and wanting to be the best at it. If we can keep that energy going, we’ll fly through the rest of the season. And with the right people beside you, even the pressure feels a little lighter.
