Welcome to todays diary entry! First big show of the year kicks off this week—the Caravan and Motorhome Show at the NEC. It’s always a massive event and a great opportunity to start the year off on the right foot financially. So many people come through the doors looking for new kit, upgrades, and advice, and it’s a prime time to get in front of them. There’s always a buzz around these shows, with new product launches, special deals, and people eager to get their season started. Whether they’re first-time buyers or seasoned motorhomers looking for an upgrade, it’s a great place to be for both customers and businesses like ours.

The show is intense, though. Long days, back-to-back conversations, and standing for hours on end—by the end of each day, I’ll be absolutely knackered. But it’s always worth it because this is where we make some of the biggest sales of the year. Kicking off the calendar year strong is key, and the NEC Show plays a huge part in making that happen. It sets the tone for the months ahead and gives us a chance to network with suppliers, customers, and other businesses in the industry. It’s also a great chance to see what’s new, from the latest motorhome designs to innovative camping gear. The industry is always evolving, and keeping up with trends is just as important as making sales.

One big change this week is our living situation. We’re staying in a hotel for nine nights while the motorhome gets some work done. That’s the longest we’ve been away from our van in over two years, and it feels so strange. The van is home—it’s what we’re used to, our routine, our own space. Having to stay in a hotel for over a week feels almost unnatural at this point. On the flip side, it does come with a few perks—proper heating, unlimited hot water, and a bed that isn’t on wheels. I suppose it’s a nice break from van life, but I already know I’ll be itching to get back into my own space before the week’s out.

One thing I am definitely making the most of while we’re back in the UK is the food. Being away for months at a time means there are a few staples I end up craving, and now I’ve got the chance to get stuck into them again. Proper bacon, thick sausages, and a good old-fashioned pie—things you just can’t get the same abroad. The full English breakfast is back on the menu, and I won’t be holding back. As much as I love Moroccan food—the tagines, the fresh bread, the mint tea—there’s just something about a sausage and bacon butty that hits the spot.

So, with a full belly and a busy week ahead, I’m ready to get stuck into the show. It’s going to be non-stop, but it’s always one of the highlights of the year. If all goes well, it’ll be a strong start to 2025, and with any luck, we’ll be heading back to the van feeling accomplished.
