Welcome to todays diary entry! And just like that, the birthday has come and gone. Back to business as usual.
This week’s going to be a bit of a whirlwind. I’ve got the team heading off to a two-day event later in the week, so today really needed to be a big push to get through anything pressing while there’s still a full crew around. From midweek onwards, it’ll be a solo mission for a couple of days, so anything that’s not sorted by then will end up on my plate—best to stay ahead of it all while I can. It’s one of those weeks where you blink and suddenly it’s Thursday, so I’m trying to be smart and get ahead of myself before it all snowballs.
The weather has taken a bit of a turn. When we first got back from Morocco, it wasn’t too bad—some nice days, even the odd hint of spring in the air. But now? It’s absolutely freezing again. There’s that sharp edge to the wind that cuts right through you, and I found myself doing that weird hunch-shoulders-shiver thing just to get from the van to the shop door.
It makes you miss the Moroccan sun even more. That dry desert heat, the blue skies… no wonder we felt healthier out there. The difference in how we feel between climates is mad—your joints ache more here, you’re more tired, everything feels heavier. I keep telling myself it’s just the change in seasons but truthfully, I think we were just made for the sun.

On the subject of health, I can’t quite work out what’s going on at the minute. I’ve been hitting the gym more than ever and feeling like I’m making a decent effort, but somehow, the scales are creeping up, not down. It’s the most demoralising thing—sore legs, sweaty runs, eating fairly well, and still putting a bit on. Maybe it’s muscle? That’s what I’m telling myself anyway. Either that or I’m sleep-eating pastries without knowing it. I know weight isn’t everything, and I’m definitely feeling a bit better in myself, but you’d like the scales to reflect the effort, wouldn’t you?

I did have a bit of a change of pace today—I headed out to Blakemere to start prepping mentally for the upcoming awning show at the beginning of April. It was good to get out there, get the lay of the land, and walk the field to pace things out. I spoke with a couple of the guys there just to get a feel for any changes since last year, and it’s already shaping up to be a good one. I always find it helps me to visualise things in advance—it makes the madness of setup week a bit more manageable if I’ve got a plan in my head. Seeing the space again made it all feel very real—it’s coming quickly now, and there’s a lot riding on the season ahead.
The season is creeping up fast now. The days are getting busier, and the to-do list doesn’t seem to get any shorter no matter how many hours you throw at it. But at least there’s a bit of a rhythm coming back. Shows, shop, gym, planning. Repeat. It’s a lot, but it’s familiar, and there’s something comforting in that. You just keep going—head down, one thing at a time.
It’s been a productive Monday overall, but I can definitely feel the weekend catching up with me. I’m shattered. Back into it tomorrow—one eye on the event midweek, the other already glancing toward April. No time to take your foot off the gas, but I’ve been here before. Just need to keep ticking boxes, trust the process, and make sure I keep a bit of fuel in the tank for what’s coming next.
