Welcome to todays diary entry! Another really good day today. That’s two in a row now – and to be honest, I’ve probably enjoyed these last couple of days more than I’ve enjoyed any workdays in months. Funny how sometimes, coming back from a holiday actually gives you a bit of a lift rather than dragging you down.
There’s been a proper rhythm to things lately – and I think a big part of that is down to finally having three of us in at once. There are four of us on the team, but between holidays, shows, and general chaos, it always seems like there’s only ever two of us in at a time, max. Which, let’s be honest, can be exhausting. Trying to juggle everything between two people in this business is like trying to put up an awning in a gale – technically possible, but mostly just frustrating and full of swearing.

So having that third pair of hands around today made all the difference. Things got done. Properly. Conversations didn’t have to be rushed. We could all breathe a bit. And with no shows planned for the rest of June, there’s a good chance we’ll be running at full strength for a lot of the month – which will be a rare and very welcome change.
I’ll be in for most of the month myself now. Realistically, I probably won’t have another day off until next Thursday – but it is what it is. You sign up for this kind of work and you know what comes with it. Long stretches, unpredictable days, the occasional burst of madness followed by quiet spells that lull you into a false sense of security. That’s retail, especially in the leisure industry. You don’t fight it – you just learn to flow with it.

And it’s not like it’s going to be a quiet month anyway. We’ve got some exciting new stock arriving next week, and I’m already scratching my head trying to work out where I’m going to put it all. The shop is packed as it is, and I swear the shelves are starting to groan when they see me coming. I’m going to have to work some serious Tetris magic to make it all fit – either that or start hanging awnings from the ceiling like some sort of retail jungle gym.
To add to the fun, Dodge is off next week – heading to Mallorca with Jen and the girls for four or five nights. And honestly? I couldn’t be happier for them. They deserve it more than anyone. Dodge works harder than just about anyone I know, and Jen is a machine – especially with everything she juggles behind the scenes, at work and at home.
It’ll be a proper little treat for them – some sunshine, some family time, and hopefully a few cocktails that don’t come with a side of caravan pegs. Although, I know Jen’s terrified of flying, so I’m sure there’ll be a fair bit of hand-squeezing and nervous glances at the safety card on the way out. But once they’re there? They’ll have the best time. I hope they get the chance to properly switch off and enjoy it, because they absolutely deserve to.
So yes – back at it. Busy, but a good busy. Head down, sleeves rolled up, and for once, actually quite enjoying the graft.
