Welcome to todays diary entry! The Road Home & A Fresh Perspective. oday marked the end of our short but sweet visit to Scotland, and we made the drive back home. It was one of those really solid, satisfying drives—no dramas on the road, Rory slept peacefully for a good chunk of the journey, and it gave us some quality time together to just enjoy the scenery, chat, and let our thoughts meander a bit.
The Scottish countryside always has a way of putting things in perspective. It was lovely catching up with Lisa’s family, and even though it was only for a couple of days, it’s done us all the world of good. There’s a kind of calm that comes from stepping away from the usual chaos and just breathing in somewhere different.
That said, there was one thing niggling at me while we were away—the bloody solar setup. It hasn’t felt right for a while. I’ve never had full confidence in it since we had it fitted, and while I try not to dwell on it too much, it’s been one of those lingering frustrations, especially when you rely on it so heavily living the way we do. The irony of wanting to live off-grid but being thwarted by a dodgy solar panel isn’t lost on me.

Thankfully, Gaz and Jim stepped in and took a look while we were away. Between the two of them, they’ve got enough know-how to put a space shuttle back together, and it looks like they’ve done something to get it ticking over properly again. Fingers crossed. I guess the real test will come next week when we’re at the North West Regional Meet.

Speaking of which, I’m actually really looking forward to it now. Enough time has passed since the Blakemere event for the dust—literally and figuratively—to settle, and the memory of the chaos has faded just enough that I can actually get excited about the next one. This will be a smaller setup—just me and Dodge doing the main graft—but Lisa will be there too, and later on Dodge’s wife and kids are coming along.
It makes a massive difference having the families around, especially when the kids get on so well. It just softens the edges of it all. There’s a bit of lightness that comes when you see the little ones playing happily while you’re trying to hammer in awning pegs and juggle sales pitches. It makes the grind worth it.
Shows are never easy—they’re physically knackering and mentally draining—but this one feels different. I think it’s because I know what’s coming. I’ve got a grip on it this time. And I’ve got a better understanding of what I need to do, how the new system works, and what needs improving from last time. It’s a second chance to show myself we can make this smooth, streamlined, and actually fun.
And if the solar works? Well, that’ll be a win in itself.

Just four weeks until we roll into one of our favourite places—Cofton Holidays. June can’t come quick enough. After the whirlwind that May is shaping up to be, the idea of that break, those rolling Devon hills, and catching up with Mandy and Feegs from the Morocco crew sounds like the perfect reset button. We’ve even booked a few more weeks at Blakemere in June just to break up the month and give ourselves something to look forward to. It’s funny how even pencilling in some downtime can keep you going when things are full throttle.
