Welcome to todays diary entry! The start of another week and one of the final 3 that we have until we head off. We have once again decided to make some last minute changes to the motorhome for the trip and we have decided to get improved suspension. We are going to get semi air suspension in the back and get some fresh coils for the front of the motorhome. This is something which id never really understood before and something id never considered up until i ended up getting a crash course one night last week about how it works. In hindsight we definitely need something to help out our suspension.
I have always felt that my motorhome looks low at the back and especially with the modifications that we have made including the mattress and the air conditioning as an example all that extra weight in the back on the rear axle. I also have a lot of over hang as well. In a nutshell if you look at most bases on motorhomes sit on which is usually things like Ducatos, Sprinters, Relays, Boxers and so on. They were 95% of the time designed with being courier vehicles which were meant to have a lot of space but perhaps not designed to be carrying 3.5k kgs in the back. If you look at Amazon and stuff very rarely it is heavy boxes. So the suspension in them is designed for that sort of thing.

Then if you imagine dropping a motorhome on the back of them and that just compresses the springs of the suspension and a lot of the time, even with new motorhomes and even with nothing extra in the back they have compressed the springs right the way down and then your resting on the bump stops of the suspension which means that your ride is awful and you feel every bump in the road. So what my semi air suspension will do is basically, and please bear in mind this is from a very high level. So what my air suspension will do is basically put a large air bag in the spring of the suspension.
So dependent on the terrain the air bag can have air added and removed to suite the terrain, to suite the load and this should ease the pressure on my suspension and should also increase the ride comfort and will just be one less thing that i will worry about whilst we are on our travels. TO be fair i am running out of things to be stressed about now. I guess then it is just that rear passenger side wheel that had a nail in and got repaired in Morocco but that seems to be fine now as well. Its just waiting to finally get on the road now.
