Welcome to todays diary entry! That Friday feeling is definitely in the air—even though I’m working all weekend, it still has that slight buzz about it. Maybe it’s just the routine of it, or maybe it’s the subtle shift in energy that Fridays tend to bring, regardless of what’s on the schedule. But there’s definitely something different in the air today.
Rory is still under the weather, bless him. It’s strange to think about how rarely he gets ill when we’re abroad. In all the time we’ve spent in places like Morocco—even after the Sahara desert incident—he never came down with anything. There, he was outside constantly, playing in the dirt and the sand like a proper little boy should.
No hand sanitiser in sight, barefoot in the mud, and yet not a sniffle. But here in the UK, as soon as the cold and wet weather hits, it’s like the germs just latch on to him. It really goes to show how much difference the climate and environment make. The fresh sea air, the sunshine, the vitamin D—it all plays a part. And once again, we’re reminded why that lifestyle suits us so well.

Today’s weather has been cold and damp again, the type that chills you to your bones and makes you long for warm tiled floors and evening walks on the beach. I’ve already started daydreaming about this winter and how quickly we can head back south. We’ve already agreed that we’re going to do a full six months this time, not just dipping our toes in, but really committing to it. We’ll come back in April 2025, just like we did this year, and hopefully return recharged and ready to face another season.

We’ve been reflecting a lot lately about how much better we all seem when we’re in that environment. Our moods lift, our energy improves, even the day-to-day stuff feels lighter. It’s not just about escaping the weather, it’s about embracing a way of living that suits us—outdoor living, good food, fewer distractions, and the kind of pace that actually lets you enjoy the little moments. That’s why the plan to do six full months this time feels so right. We’ll be able to settle more, explore more, and make the most of that slower, warmer way of life.
There’s something comforting about having that plan in place, knowing we’ve got the promise of warmth and sunshine at the other end of the year. It makes the hard days easier to deal with, and it gives everything we’re doing now a little more purpose. The work, the long hours, the chaos of the season—it’s all part of the bigger picture.
So, even though I’ll be working all weekend, I’ve got one eye on the horizon. And with Rory’s blocked-up Rod Stewart voice keeping us company, it’s just another reminder that this season of life is temporary, and the adventures ahead are worth every bit of the grind.
