Welcome to todays diary entry! Waking up this morning, I thought the worst was behind me after Blakemere. But stepping into the shop, reality hit hard and I honestly felt a bit winded. There’s messy, there’s “we’ve just done a show” messy, and then there’s whatever this is. I don’t even know where to begin. It’s the worst I’ve ever seen it, and what stings even more is knowing that only a week or so ago, the place looked brilliant—probably the best it ever has, in all the time I’ve been here. Everything was clean, displays were perfect, I’d finally felt like we’d got things nailed down.

Now it looks like a bomb’s gone off. Demo awnings in bags are just dumped wherever they could be, some literally blocking the aisles and shop doors. There’s stock stacked up randomly, bits of kit that should be on display hidden behind mountains of stuff, and even the counter feels like it’s been lost under a sea of boxes, bags and paperwork. The warehouse? It’s a disaster zone. Every available inch is crammed with returns, demo gear, and leftover show stock that I haven’t got a clue where to store.

It’s painful, actually. Not just embarrassing—although it’s that too, especially when anyone walks in and you see the look on their face. You can explain until you’re blue in the face about the show, how much we brought back, how it’s all hands to the pump… but it doesn’t really matter. First impressions are everything, and right now, our first impression is utter chaos. I feel like apologising every time someone comes through the door, which isn’t exactly the image you want to project.

To make matters worse, there’s just no clear starting point. Normally, I can break things down, make a plan, and get stuck in. But today, every corner I turn just reveals another pile, another problem, another list of jobs that each need another three jobs before you can even get to them. It’s like the mess is multiplying. And with every available bit of manpower now tied up in the warehouse—trying to deal with teething problems from the new system, getting orders out, just keeping the wheels turning—there’s no spare hands for the shop floor or the displays.

It’s moments like this when you think about all the things you could have done differently. Should have got a Luton van. Should have staggered the returns. Should have made a clear plan for getting stuff back in and up again. But hindsight’s a wonderful thing, and it’s always easier to see where you went wrong when you’re standing in the wreckage.

My laptop is still switched off, buried somewhere under a pile of paperwork and unopened post. I haven’t touched it in a week, and I honestly can’t see myself getting near it any time soon. Every minute feels like it’s taken up with either moving something, tripping over something, or scratching my head at the sheer scale of the mess. I’m not sure I’ve ever felt quite so lost for words—and that’s saying something for me.

So here I am, hands on hips, just staring at it all and wondering where the breakthrough is going to come from. Maybe tomorrow will be the day it all starts to click back into place, but tonight, it feels like I’m looking up at a mountain with no path in sight.

If I could bottle up just a bit of the drive and momentum we had pre-show, I’d be sorted. For now, though, it’s just about taking a breath and trying to pick a starting point—any starting point. Even if it’s just one bag, one box, one shelf at a time.
