Welcome to todays diary entry! Just like that, my day off is gone, as quickly as it arrived. It was brilliant while it lasted, but at least I’ve got another one tomorrow before I dive into another 12-day stretch of work. The thought of another long run of working days isn’t exactly thrilling, but knowing I’ll have another two days off the week after next makes it feel a little more manageable. I think when you’ve been going at full throttle for so long, the idea of slowing down almost feels foreign, but I can feel how much my body and mind have needed this short break.

I definitely needed the rest, and my body is making sure I know it. That extra sleep during the day yesterday was a game-changer, but even with that, I’ve woken up today aching like I’ve been hit by a truck. The DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) have well and truly kicked in, and I’m hobbling around like the Tin Man in desperate need of oil. Every muscle in my legs feels like it’s had a rude awakening after that 5K run, but honestly, I don’t mind too much. It’s a good ache—the kind that tells me I actually pushed myself for the first time in a while. I suppose it’s the price to pay for getting back into fitness, and if this is what it takes to get where I want to be, I’ll take it.

Despite the soreness, I’m not backing down. I’m going to run again tomorrow and try to stick to four or five 5Ks a week. It’s a big commitment, but I know if I stay consistent, I’ll see results. The goal is to get down to the high 15s in terms of stone by summer. That’s the vision, and every small step counts. It’s not just about losing weight—it’s about feeling better, having more energy, and proving to myself that I can stay disciplined even when work is relentless. I know how easy it is to let fitness slip when work gets hectic, but this time, I want to make sure I stay on top of it.

Work today has been surprisingly pleasant—not too crazy, not too quiet. Just steady enough to keep me busy but not overwhelmed. The shop had a nice flow of customers, and I managed to get through the day without feeling like I was drowning in tasks. After the last few weeks of absolute chaos, I’ll take that as a win. I know things won’t stay this calm forever, but I’m learning to appreciate the quieter days when they come. It’s a rare thing in this line of work, and it makes me realise how much of the past month has been a constant sprint rather than a steady jog.

It’s also nice to be looking forward to another day off tomorrow. I could definitely get used to this whole ‘break in between work’ thing. I don’t often give myself time to slow down, so having two days off in a week almost feels like I’m cheating the system. But in reality, it’s just me learning to find a better balance—something I know I need to work on if I want to keep this up long-term.

I think there’s a misconception that taking time for yourself means you’re slacking off, but in reality, it’s the complete opposite. If I want to keep going at full speed during the busiest parts of the season, I need to start pacing myself better now.

I’m making the most of this calmer period while I can because I know that once we hit peak season, things will ramp up again, and days off will be few and far between. So, for now, I’m going to enjoy the little wins—like another lie-in tomorrow, another run to push myself a bit further, and another chance to reset before the next busy spell kicks in. I know how quickly time flies, and before I know it, I’ll be back in the thick of it again. But for now, I’ll take what I can get.
