Diary Entry – 05th February 2024

Did you know you can follow us on our journey on YouTube!!

After our weekend away i could have done with another day or so off this week just so i could relax after our break. It does feel very much like home here and the wild sense of relief i felt getting back here was huge yesterday. The weekends just seem to fly by but the weeks also fly by too. We were looking at the calendar today and planning roughly what weekends we would be getting ferries back to mainland Europe and what weekends getting back in the UK. It feels all the more real now as we start the decadency towards leaving as we are over half way into our 6 months.

Just hold that thought, we are over 3 months into our 6 month stay how the hell has that happened. It feels absolutely mad to be saying it. This time last year we would have been in Portugal and were planning a brief 2 week foray into Morocco let alone 82 days, let alone coming back later in the year for another 6 months. That is a little bit what Morocco is like and it is funny trying to explain to people how much we love it but following that up with “in the beginning i hated it”.

The plan is as follows, we envisage getting back into Europe around the 29th March and then the ferry from St Malo to Portsmouth last Friday in April as i want to have some time in Spain before i enter the overly expensive cost doom that is France. We will probably only stay one or 2 nights in France because it is just so expensive it pains me me to be there. I am thinking couple of nights in La Rochelle then straight to St Malo for the ferry. I have added another amazing place to my list of must visits in Spain whilst we are on the way back, it is a place called Chulilla

Chulilla is a hidden gem nestled in the heart of Valencia’s countryside, Spain. This quaint village is like stepping back in time, with its narrow streets, white-washed houses, and a palpable sense of history that whispers from every corner. It’s the sort of place where the pace of life slows down, inviting visitors to soak in its tranquil beauty and old-world charm.

The village is perched dramatically on a hill, surrounded by the Turia River gorge. The views here are nothing short of breathtaking, offering panoramic scenes that seem to stretch into eternity. Imagine sipping your morning coffee as you gaze out at the rugged landscape, with the river winding its way through the valley below. It’s a sight that captures the heart and doesn’t let go.

For those with a thirst for adventure, Chulilla is a paradise waiting to be explored. The area is renowned for its climbing routes, attracting climbers from all over the globe. With over 800 climbing routes, the region caters to all levels, from beginners to seasoned pros. The limestone cliffs offer a variety of challenges, ensuring that every climber finds their perfect match.

Hiking enthusiasts are not left out, with numerous trails crisscrossing the landscape. One of the most famous hikes is the route through the Turia River canyon, leading to the iconic hanging bridges. These bridges offer not just a path, but a thrilling experience as you cross over the river, with the gorge stretching below. The hike is a blend of natural beauty and engineering marvel, providing stunning views and a rush of adrenaline.

Chulilla’s charm isn’t limited to its natural wonders. The village itself is a delight to explore. Its narrow streets are like a maze, leading to hidden squares, quaint cafes, and intriguing shops. The Church of Our Lady of the Angels, with its imposing presence, offers a glimpse into the village’s religious heritage, while the castle ruins atop the hill recount tales of a bygone era.

For those keen to dive into local culture, Chulilla’s culinary scene is a treat. The village’s restaurants and bars serve up traditional Spanish dishes, with a focus on local ingredients. From mouthwatering paellas to delectable tapas, the food in Chulilla is a reflection of its rich cultural tapestry. And let’s not forget the wine – Valencia’s vineyards produce some exquisite varieties, perfect for pairing with your meal or enjoying on a balmy evening.

Despite its many attractions, Chulilla remains relatively undiscovered, allowing visitors to enjoy its beauty without the crowds. It’s a place where you can disconnect from the hustle and bustle of modern life and reconnect with nature and yourself. Whether you’re climbing the limestone cliffs, exploring the winding streets, or simply enjoying the view, Chulilla offers an escape that’s both thrilling and serene.

In conclusion, Chulilla is more than just a destination; it’s an experience. It’s a place where adventure and tranquility coexist, where history and nature intertwine. For those seeking a unique getaway, Chulilla promises memories that will last a lifetime. So, pack your bags, and set off on an adventure to this enchanting Spanish village.
