Welcome to todays diary entry! This weekend was always supposed to be something really special. A rare and precious family break with everyone together—my mum, my brother, my sister and her husband, the kids. We had it all planned, something we knew could be the last opportunity to create a memory like that, with my mum’s health as it is. But with Rory still recovering and his health too fragile to risk passing anything on, we had to make the painful but right decision to stay away. It’s been a really difficult pill to swallow.
So instead, we returned to one of our all-time favourite bolt holes—Blakemere Touring Park. If there’s one place that consistently feels like a sanctuary for us, it’s here. We’ve stayed at Blakemere more times than I can count. It’s local enough to be convenient, but peaceful and different enough to feel like a genuine escape. It’s a bit like hitting the reset button when everything feels like it’s spinning.

The beauty of Blakemere is in its simplicity and charm. There’s the gorgeous woodland walks that Rory absolutely loves. He can run free here—safe, open spaces that give us the freedom to relax while he burns off energy. There’s a little village of boutique shops, quirky independents where you always find something you didn’t know you needed, and a brilliant little café where the coffee always hits just right. It’s the kind of place where the pace of life slows down, and that’s exactly what we needed this weekend.

It’s also given us time to dream again. We had a wander around The Range, B&M, and B&Q, mostly just mooching, but also hunting for inspiration for our Portugal land project. Garden ornaments, solar lights, raised beds—stuff that seems small now, but feels like part of a bigger picture we’re starting to bring into focus. We walked through aisles talking about where a little fire pit might go, what kind of outdoor kitchen we could build from scrap pallets, what trees we’d like to plant. It made the dream feel tangible again, like it’s not just a far-off fantasy but something real we’re slowly edging toward.
And then, just to add another emotional layer to the day, there was Stoke City. I’ve followed them through thick and thin—mostly thin lately—and today was the final day of the season. We were on the edge. Relegation was a real possibility, and the thought of dropping down was almost too much to bear. But somehow, we survived. It wasn’t pretty, but it was enough. And in a strange way, it felt symbolic of everything we’ve been through lately. We’ve been hanging on by a thread some days—but we’re still standing.
So yes, this weekend isn’t what we originally hoped for. But it’s been a good reminder that even when plans fall apart, there’s always comfort to be found in the familiar. There’s value in the simple things—quiet places, shared dreams, and football clubs that just won’t die. We’re together, Rory’s on the mend, and we’ve still got a dream to chase. That’s enough to keep going.
📅 Cofton Countdown: 32 Days to Go!
☀️🏕️⛱️🍻
Only 32 days now until we’re off to Cofton—and after everything the past couple of months have thrown at us, we are holding onto that week away like a lifeline. It’s more than just a holiday—it’s a reward, a reset, a real chance to exhale.
We’re counting down the days until we’re sat with Mandy and Feegs, BBQ sizzling, drink in hand, Rory giggling in the sun, and not a care in the world. June can’t come soon enough.
