Welcome to todays diary entry! Finally, a bit of breathing room. No more shows for a few weeks, and a chance to settle down and take stock of everything. It feels like we’ve been running at 100 miles an hour for weeks on end, and now that the dust has settled, I can finally start to process it all. It’s been a relentless stretch—two big shows, a full showroom move-around, and what feels like a never-ending cycle of work. The last time I had an actual day off was before we landed back in the UK on the 7th of February. Since then, it’s been 26 straight days of non-stop graft, and I can feel every single one of them catching up with me. The exhaustion isn’t just physical—it’s mental as well. The constant thinking, planning, and juggling responsibilities has been relentless, and now that there’s a gap in the chaos, I almost don’t know what to do with myself.
Tomorrow, though, I’m finally taking a day off. Not a half-day, not an “I’ll just pop in and check on things” kind of day—an actual, full day off. The plan is to get to the gym and attempt to run 5k, which, given how knackered I feel, might be a bit ambitious, but I need to start somewhere. The thought of actually having a bit of time to focus on myself is both exciting and daunting—when you’re so used to being constantly on the go, it’s almost hard to switch off and do something different. But I know I need to. I’ve set myself a goal to be a stone lighter by the Blakemere Awning Show, and while it won’t happen overnight, starting now gives me a fighting chance. I know how easy it is to let it slip once work gets hectic again, so I need to get the ball rolling now while I have the chance.

Lisa has been an absolute rock through all of this. While I’ve been working every hour under the sun, she’s been holding everything together at home, looking after Rory, and keeping everything running smoothly. I know how much of a strain it must have been, especially with me barely being around, but she’s taken it all in stride. It makes such a difference having someone who just gets it, who supports the madness and helps make it all possible. She never complains, even when she’s had long days herself, and I know how lucky I am to have that kind of support. We haven’t really had much time together lately, and hopefully, with the quieter weeks ahead, we can actually sit down and enjoy each other’s company without something work-related pulling us away.

Speaking of Rory, he’s started coming down with a runny nose and a cold again. I swear, kids are just permanently ill when they’re in the UK. He’s never like this when we’re in Morocco—he’s running around in the sunshine, full of energy, never so much as a sniffle. The moment we’re back here, though, it’s like clockwork. Snotty nose, bit of a cough, and the cycle begins again. It’s frustrating because he’s such a happy, active kid when he’s feeling well, but when these colds hit, it just slows him right down. The worst part is knowing that as soon as he’s better, it’s only a matter of time before the next one rolls in. The UK weather doesn’t help, and I can’t help but feel like the damp and cold just make everything worse. It makes me miss the warmth even more.
For now, though, I’m just focusing on getting through today and looking forward to that well-earned rest tomorrow. A day to reset, recharge, and hopefully start feeling a bit more human again before the next wave of madness begins. I need to remind myself that it’s okay to slow down every now and then. The work will always be there, the shows will keep coming, but if I don’t take the time to look after myself, I won’t be in the right frame of mind to tackle it all properly. So, for once, I’m going to make sure that tomorrow is about me—no distractions, no half-measures. Just a proper, well-earned break.
