Welcome to todays diary entry! Final day of the in-store mini show, and once again, it was another great success. It’s always a bit of a gamble running events like this—you put in the hours, do the prep, and hope that people turn up. But when it pays off, it makes all the stress and late nights worthwhile. The turnout today was strong, and the energy in the shop was great from start to finish. It’s still hard to believe how much of a difference this weekend has made. On a normal Sunday, the shop would be closed, but now that we’re in the season, it’s seven days a week from here on out. No more quiet Sundays off, just a constant flow of work and customers.

Sorting out rotas is proving to be a bit of a challenge now. It’s always tricky balancing staff schedules when you suddenly go from a six-day to a seven-day operation, and trying to make sure everyone gets their fair share of time off while keeping the shop running smoothly is no easy task. I don’t mind working Sundays, though—I’d much rather have a day off in the week. There’s something nice about being able to get things done when everywhere is a bit quieter, so if I can structure things that way, I’ll be happy.

On the personal side, there’s a big shift happening soon with Rory. Before the NEC, he had a walk around a nursery, and now that he’s entitled to 15 hours of free childcare a week, we’re looking at giving him a couple of mornings there. It’s a strange thought. He’s never really been away from us for long periods before, so this will be the longest he’s ever been apart from us. Part of me is excited for him because it’ll be a new experience and a chance to interact with other kids, but part of me also feels a bit emotional about it. He’s been by our side every day for so long, and it’s going to feel strange not having him there for those few hours. On the other hand, it will give me and Lisa a bit of time to actually do something together—whether that’s getting work done in peace or just having a quiet coffee for once without the constant chaos of a toddler running around.

After work today, I made a big decision—I joined a gym. I’ve got a laser-like focus on losing some weight, and I’m determined to make some real progress. The next show after this one is the Blakemere Awning Show, and my goal is to be a stone lighter by then. I know it’s not going to be easy with the workload I’ve got, but if I can stay consistent and keep my head in it, I think it’s doable. Both me and Mum are on the same page with wanting to be healthier, so having that bit of accountability will definitely help keep me on track.

All in all, today has been another step in the right direction. The show was a success, work is full steam ahead, and now I’ve set myself a new personal challenge. March is shaping up to be a busy month, but if today is anything to go by, we’re off to a strong start. Now it’s just a matter of keeping the momentum going, both in work and in everything else.
