Welcome to todays diary entry! White Rabbits! A phrase that, if said first thing in the morning on the first day of the month, is supposed to bring good luck. It’s one of those old superstitions that’s been around for centuries, with roots tracing back to folklore. Some say it started as a way for soldiers to ensure their safety in battle, while others believe it was a simple good luck charm shared between friends and family. Either way, given how much effort has gone into preparing for this weekend, I’ll take all the luck I can get!
The first day of the in-store mini show, and what a way to kick off March—it’s been a massive success! The worry is always there in the back of your mind: What if no one turns up? What if the weather is bad? What if all the time spent planning and preparing ends up being for nothing? But today has proved that all the hard work has been worth it. We took around four or five times more today than we would on a normal day, and I can’t tell you how much of a relief that is. It makes all the late nights, stress, and last-minute adjustments feel like they’ve paid off.

You can spend months planning for an event like this, but until the doors open and people actually start coming in, you never truly know how it’s going to go. There’s always that nervous energy in the morning, waiting to see if all the effort was worth it. But from the moment the first customer walked in, it was clear that today was going to be a busy one. There were queues at the till, stock flying off the shelves, and people genuinely excited about what we had on display. That’s the kind of buzz you hope for—it keeps the momentum going and makes all the exhaustion seem worth it.

After the show wrapped up, me and Roger popped to the shop to grab some beers and some kindling for a fire. There’s something about ending a long, successful day with a fire and a drink that just feels right. We sat in the car park, fire crackling beside us, while Roger made a paella with a ‘Leyland twist’—which basically means he’s added something unconventional to it, but I wasn’t complaining. The food was great, the fire was warm, and we just sat there chatting away until the cold finally got the better of us.
It’s days like today that remind me why I love doing this. The stress, the exhaustion, the constant feeling of never having enough time—it all fades away when you see the results of your efforts. A strong start to the show, a cracking meal with good company, and a moment to just sit and take it all in. March has started on a high, and if the rest of the month goes anything like today, then we’re in for a great season ahead.
