Welcome to todays diary entry! Really enjoying our time at Blakemere now. There’s something quite special about having the big field all to ourselves—Rory has absolutely loved it. It’s the perfect space for him to run around and burn off some energy. He’s such an outdoorsy little lad, which is honestly a relief given our lifestyle.
We’ve always wanted him to grow up surrounded by fresh air, freedom, and space to explore, and this setup couldn’t be better suited to that. Seeing him so happy and free makes all the long hours and hard graft feel worth it.
The only downside to where we’re pitched is that the pub, The Wee Howf, closes at 7pm. By the time I’ve finished up work for the day and got back, there’s often not much time left to actually pop in and enjoy it.
Would’ve been nice to grab a pint and unwind in there a little more, but that’s just the way it goes sometimes. Hopefully we can squeeze in a visit or two before we leave. There’s something about a quiet pint at the end of a long day that just hits different.

We’ve been so incredibly lucky with the weather. It’s been beautiful for days now and the forecast is showing no signs of change well into next week. It makes such a massive difference—mood, motivation, everything just feels a little easier when the sun’s shining and there’s not a drop of rain in sight. We’ve certainly been fortunate. It really lifts the spirits and gives us a bit of a head start when you’re not battling with wet tents and soggy displays.
Today was day one using the new system, and it’s been a bit of a whirlwind. There’s always that sense of being on the back foot when something familiar gets replaced with something brand new. I suppose it’s part of getting older—you get used to a certain way of doing things, and when that rug gets pulled from underneath you, it throws you. I won’t lie, it’s been a little chaotic, but the potential this system has is massive.

If we get it right, this will be a real game-changer for us. It’s faster, slicker, and will definitely give us an edge over competitors once we’re fully confident using it. The challenge now is just getting to grips with it—understanding how it flows, what shortcuts exist, and how to iron out the inevitable early teething problems. It’s like learning to ride a bike again, just with more buttons and a steeper learning curve.
We’re also looking at getting iPads and tablets set up for the show so we can do everything digitally instead of scribbling notes on bits of paper. That thought terrifies me a bit, if I’m honest. I’m someone who likes to see things written down—I like the physical process of jotting, crossing out, highlighting.
But I get it… this is where we’re going, and if it makes us more efficient and frees up time, then I’m all for giving it a proper go. It’s just going to take a bit of time and a lot of patience. Hopefully, we can strike the balance between the digital world and the hands-on, face-to-face service we’re known for.
So far, though, spirits are high. Rory’s happy, the weather’s great, and the team are getting their heads around this new system bit by bit. We’ve got a busy few days ahead, but the foundations we’ve laid this week have set us up well. Here’s hoping we keep this positive momentum rolling into the weekend and right into the Blakemere show kickoff.
