Diary Entry – 15th November 2024

Did you know you can follow us on our journey on YouTube!!

Welcome to todays diary entry! The time had come, these final 170 miles always feel like the longest. I woke up at about 2am this morning then simply couldn’t properly get back to sleep. It is like when you have have an alarm set (which we did this morning). I just tossed and turned and lay there with my eyes closed for about 4 hours. But i was up at 6am and just had a couple of things that i needed to pack up from last night like put the chairs away and roll up the electric cable but things like the wind out sun canopy were away and it was just a case of getting his bed packed away at the back of the motorhome.

Its home time!

It was actually him who got up first at 6am so my hope was that by the time we left at 7am and got on the main road from Marrakech to Agadir that he would settle down and fall asleep. Which annoyingly was an absolute pipe dream and he didn’t sleep 1 jot. But you try and remain positive and think well if he didnt sleep on the way here then he will fall asleep earlier in the day and go bed tonight earlier, pipe dream. I broke my number 1 rule and in eagerness to get him to sleep i set off at 7am and it was still dark this time it was on roads that i didn’t know.

It was a traumatic 35 minutes getting through the top of Marrakech onto the road and we stopped and put a full tank of diesel in as well but it was only 170 odd miles which should be about 3 hours but the last 20 miles are on A roads with almost constant round abouts. Well, that is what we thought but they have built a new round around the back of the football stadium meaning you are not having to drive past the shops and stuff which actually made that last leg about a million times more enjoyable than normal.

I am not ashamed to say that pulling up here made me a bit emotional and a bit tear. To confirm a tear never left my eye but i could feel them. I cannot explain it other than just the sense of relief and excitement of being here. I think what set me off was seeing the guy on the barrier at the front. He didn’t recognize us at first but as soon as he did he had a big grin on his face and i went over and gave him a hug and shook his hand and the next 15 minutes of seeing people that we have not seen for 8 months was just overwhelming. The Brookes were already here, the Fegan’s were already here and after almost 8 months of prep we were finally home.

I then spent the whole day setting up my awning and watching people walk past and admire it as they did. The Fegan’s and the Brookes have all said they want one. It is one hell of an awning so that you to Dometic and Si Heaton for allowing us to showcase here in the greatest place on earth.
