Welcome to todays diary entry! Well today was a busy day! I have my 2 members of staff off currently at the same time and it was only me and Alan (the Northwich equivalent of Victor Meldrew) and Trish. So i was the only one really who could talk about awnings and do the big selling so i was spread pretty thin, that on top of trying to get the shop ready for the gaffers arrival next Wednesday/ Thursday. I have seen this as like one of those programs where someone goes away and in the interim Nick Knowles, Alan Titchmarsh and Charlie Dimmock come in a spruce the shop up.
Last couple of weeks i have been trying to do a little something about 4:55 and get the lads a beer to toast of the week and toast success’s i am quite a tough task master but i don’t think i am all bad. My issue is that i expect everyone to have the same drive, work ethic and commitment i have and if i feel like people don’t care as much as me or even care at all i really cannot comprehend that. I find it mad to be fair. To be able to work in this industry and to deal in things that people like and people want to buy from is a gift.

This is coming from someone with an extensive career in debt services, selling life insurance and selling personal lines insurance and trying to sell stuff that people don’t really want to speaking about amazing shiny new things that people really want. There is just no comparison at all. I honestly feel privileged to be able to work not only in the industry but also at A and E Leisure. I just love the place and if you cut me in half i would bleed A and E Leisure. It does get my goat when i feel like people take it for granted.
Where ever i have worked in the past i have always tried to treat them with the same level of attentiveness as i would if it was in fact my own business. I believe that is why i have always got on so well with owners and managers alike as i hope they can see that i care and i am interested in the business. My development opportunity is to deal with the fact that not everyone cares. For some people they are literally turn up at 07:59 and gone by 17:01 and what i need to do is be able to understand/ be accepting of why they don’t and be able to deal with it and process it in my own mind. Even though i find it very frustrating.
