Diary Entry – 29th July 2024

Did you know you can follow us on our journey on YouTube!!

Welcome to todays diary entry! Today was an extremely proud day for me, after the staffing turmoil of last week i was asked by the Dodge to be caretaker manager of the sales/ shop for the next few months until we leave. To be honest i was absolutely delighted to say yes and to be fair it was sort of my idea in the first place but never the less it was a proud day for me. I have on and off worked in that place for a couple of years now and to finally get that job was a great privilege.

What that body shop can do is incredible!

To use a football analogy a caretaker manager is someone who comes in who has knowledge of the place and knows the people and just steadies the ship whilst we plan what is happening next. When ever Stoke struggle we always say “give it to Tony Pulis to the end of the season” and in this instance i am Tony Pulis. It is just business as usual for me though as i have never been particularly motivated by status or by titles it is always about getting what needs to be done done and getting on with it.

It is a bit of a shame that we are away after the next 3 days because i would ot get my teeth stuck into it and really try and get the place rocking but it will just have to wait until we get back from holiday. The thing is, you spend more time with the people around you than you do with your own family and loved ones so the work place should be an enjoyable place to be but not at the expense of getting stuff done. August really is the last month of the season really as once the kids go back in a daft way it is on the build up to Christmas then.

Although in my eyes the season truly ends after the kids Halloween half term at the end of October. You have had the final NEC of the year and then like i say it is all eyes on winter coming and being on the way. I really feel a lot of companies are going to struggle this winter and we may see a few more go under like the big ones that have gone in the last 12 months. I hope not and i do not wish ill on anyone, so if you don’t buy it from me, please try not to beat all the money out of it for retailers as it is a long cold winter otherwise.
