Diary Entry – 10th April 2024

Did you know you can follow us on our journey on YouTube!!

Welcome to todays diary entry! Well i was not expecting that! What an amazing place Santander was. I wonder how many people just assume that it is a port town and then just get off the ferry and then head off to where ever else it is that they are heading in. Well this is certainly a place i will be revisiting when we get the ferry back here again in the late summer/ autumn. You could easily spend a few days here, so i am glad that we knuckled down and get here and managed to spend a bit of time rather than just getting straight to the ferry.

First time in an Aquarium for an age!

I think stuff always seems better in the sun and we were all in shorts and summery attire whilst the locals were all in big massive winter duffle coats the sort of things that people who are skiing where. Minus the big over the top goggles but there was certainly an abundance of woolly hats. We left the motorhome about midday and we planned on being oput much earlier than that to head for a Macdonalds which was a 7 minute walk away (not deliberately parked here for the Maccies). But it didnt oipen until 11:30am and i wasnt willing to not eat until that point.

We wanted to get to an aquarium as he has not been to one since Gijon so that was the main plan so when we set off, once thing we didn’t know about Santander is that it is so bloody hilly. To get pretty much anywhere involves an almost Ben Nevis esc climb so by the time we got half way there we were absolutely out of puff but that was made even worse by the fact that the Beef had fallen asleep in his push chair so there wasn’t much point in heading for the aquarium. So we found a nice little restaraunt/ bistro/ bar place and had some drinks and some really nice food.

What was really nice was to just sit there in the sun with the Beef asleep as he usually waits until we sit down then wakes then wants to go absolutely mental and have a carry on and run around like a maniac. We ended up having a couple of hours in the pub and it was lovely. It was probably the most i have caught the sun since we have been away. The aquarium was pretty good and we walked along the promenade back to a place to have some ice cream. We put the sat nav on for the walk back and it took a slightly different route but a route that at took us through a big tunnel. Meaning that we didnt have to climb Ben after all.
