Diary Entry – 30th March 2024

Did you know you can follow us on our journey on YouTube!!

Welcome to todays diary entry! Took the motorhome out for a drive today we hadn’t done too much shopping since we have been on the move so much so we decided that now was a good a time as any to get the Moho off the pitch and get off to local Mercadona. I think it is the first time i have ever been in a Mercadona to be honest. The Mercadona always reminds me of a couple we met travelling who are Geordies that live in Portugal and they are Jon and Manda Barrowdale.

He always talks about how much he loves the Mercadona and when he comes to Morocco he brings about 480 cans of lager with him. It is one of those Motorhomes that has a secret floor so he just lines the floor with 330ml of beer. I absolutely love visiting foreign supermarkets and they always seem to be way way way better than those in the UK. The one thing that i always found incredible about Moroccan supermarkets were the full aisles dedicated to both tinned tuna and spreading cheese.

When i say aisles i mean literally aisles and aisles full of the stuff. Hardly any frozen food that doesn’t perish but miles and miles of cheese. To be fair i was really disappointed with this supermarket. It wasn’t helped by the fact there were no real parking spots for motorhomes and because all the shops were closed yesterday it was absolutely rammed so i had to try and squeeze into a tiny space which didn’t set the trip off in a good way. Made worse by the fact that everyone seemed to be in the biggest rush in the history of Saturday shopping experiences.

Even the inside of this supermarket was a bit disappointing and wasn’t quite as good as Jon Barrowdale makes out. I am not sure whether this was just a poor version of it. One thing that was brilliant was the amount that it cost we did a pretty big shop one that would probably last us over a week and it came to about £160. We have found that Spain is probably as cheap as Morocco and is actually reasonably well priced on a lot of things. It always makes me wonder how France gets away with it. It is outrageously expensive where as we have found Spain to be really good. That is one of the reasons why we like it so much and dislike France. I remember when we were there last year and for a packet of chicken breasts was over £10.
