Diary Entry – 01st March 2024

Did you know you can follow us on our journey on YouTube!!

Welcome to todays diary entry! Oh my god what an absolute ball ache of a day. Holy moly! On a serious note we had loads to do and we knew it was going to be a long one but had no idea that it was going to be as long as it was. Rather than doing the things over Thursday night and Friday morning like we planned earlier on in the week and because we were going out for tea last night we decided to smash it all in on Friday morning. So taxi arrived on time, we were there on time and to be fair we had a decent start. We wanted to head to the Souk and get some clothes again before we left and to spend the Beef’s Christmas money as we had not been to the Souk since before Xmas. I also said i would get my nephews something whilst we were away as well. We told the taxi driver we would be 1 hour as we only needed clothes. WRONG! We ended up being 2 hours in there and straight away we were chasing our tails.

Finally parked up again

So 11:30 and we then went onto the Marjane, we had not had anything to eat so we decided to get something from the café in there as it is very nice in there and we have eaten in there a few times do we knew it was a safe bet. It was either that or Maccies but there was no way i could walk around this supermarket for 2 hours and not have a hanger tantrum so we had to eat first. We had a strict list of things to buy, we wanted to stock up on ambient stuff and the bits to make meals rather than the meat part. SO we were thinking bits like pasta. gnocchi, rice, wraps. Stuff that had a decent shelf life in case there were not many shops. One thing we know we will always be able to get is chicken and bread so we didn’t bother with those. That strict list got out of hand as we needed buying a new bin, slippers for the new carpet in the motorhome. So the shopping ended up being over £200 when we had budgeted a little over £100.

The next stop was the big one, the one which we had tried to calculate the most. The Uni Prix, this was where we were stocking up on booze. The biggest challenge with this was trying to work out how much we are going to need. By the time we get to the desert it will be Ramadan meaning that no where will be selling booze so we need to make sure we had enough to get us through the next 3 weeks. I have seen people come from Spain with hundreds and hundreds of cans. As i worry about the weight i didn’t want to go OTT so i settled with 96 cans of Corelli (they are only 33cl before you judge me ha ha ha) and 3 bottles of wine. So hopefully will see me through till April.

By the time we had got back and by the time we had walked around and said goodbye to everyone it was probably about 5pm by the time we got off and it was sad to see the back of Atlantica park but also we were excited about the road ahead. We fortunately only had an hour to drive to next stop, so full tank of diesel, pump tyres up and off we headed into the hills and headed for the desert. We arrived safely but the pitch that was best where we are needed me to reverse up a big hill and i am a nervous driver but i got up there in the end. I was that tired i didn’t even drink any of the beers i had bought. In bed at 9pm. Just as the lights had gone out and we were settling we heard this obscene noise from outside after turning the lights and wondering what the hell it was we realised it was a donkey. Scared the hell out of me.
