So, here we go!! The biggest march south ever begins today. The beauty of this is that we don’t catch the ferry until 21:30 until tonight so we can literally just take a steady stroll down to Portsmouth. This will be the first time we get the Portsmouth Santander ferry and we have heard some horror stories about the crossing so hopefully it wont be too bad. If there is one thing i don’t have is is sea legs. I’m an optimist though so hopefully will be like a pond throughout the whole time.
We left the campsite about 11 oclock just before The Beef was due to sleep so we could try and get an hour or so under our belts before he woke but he ended up sleeping most of the entire trip to Portsmouth. He woke about 20 minutes away which was ideal because we had just turned up to a supermarket as we wanted to put some diesel in and get a few bits for the ferry like brads, ham, UHT milk, biscuits and crisps and so on. The ferry apparently is rather expensive so want to try and keep a lid on the budget as much as we can.
We were at the ferry for about 3 oclock which was 5 odd hours early before we could check in. Ironically we are normally late so to be early let alone this early made a change. When we got onto the ferry we discovered the first problem which was that id booked the wrong room. Rather than a double bed and a travel cot we have 4 single bunk beds and a travel cot the room also didnt have a fridge in it either which is a bit of a pain.
Lisa, wasn’t too happy with that as you can imagine and within about 5 minutes of setting off from the harbour I could feel a build up of pressure behind my eyes and nose area, i am really motion sick.
