Diary Entry – 17th March 2023

Our search for the best site in Morocco goes on, it wont be this one. I am sure it is nice enough etc but i think we have been spoilt by La Relais. That is absolutely the bench mark for campsites in Morocco. This was just doesn’t have enough about it. We are literally a stones throw away from a mosque meaning that the call to prayer is so so so loud. It woke the Beef up this morning, it literally makes you jump it is that loud. The weather is markedly colder than the previous few days which for us was a welcome relief but Ness and Gee are absolute sun worshippers and they can just sit in the sun most days so being kind to them we sat down and talked next plans. The options were simple, we had a relaxing day today go to Essaouira tomorrow and move on the next day or we go to Essaouira today and then move on tomorrow. A lot of the time the plans are dictated by the weather forecast and it was to be windy but still low to mid 20s. Pleasant for us but not baking for those guys. Essaouira today it was.

It was so so so nice to be able to get to the beach. The town here is lovely, a huge long sweeping beach, kite surfers everywhere, surfers everywhere. You can see why this is so popular. We got a taxi from the campsite which worked out at 70dh per person return which we were really happy about. He dropped at a place called Fanatic which is a lovely fish restaurant. The Beef wanted feeding so we went and sat on the decking and had a couple of drinks. I had a couple of Casablanca’s, as did Graham, Lisa had Mojitos (standard). This town has such a different feel to Marrakesh obviously it is not as busy but it also less intense. You still get people who want to flog you stuff but a single no thank you is enough to send them away. It is mainly a fishing town and a fish market and the smell was authentic. It smelt a bit like Market Street in a Morrisons. You can absolutely see why they call it the “Sea of Seagulls”. The medina was really pretty with all white buildings inside the town walls. This has probably been one of the prettier places we have seen.

That got me thinking about if i was on one of these market stalls what would my approach be. Like i mentioned you obviously get the people who don’t take no for an answer but I think I would be onto the next after a couple of no’s. I would be more interested in getting onto the next person who maybe interested. I think i would quite good on those stalls. I would love a go one time. My sort of thing that.
