Diary Entry – 17th October 2023

Its is here!! It is time!! The event that has pretty much consumed all of our free time for the last month or so is finally upon us. I think i feel more anxious about being on the stand than i do about our first talk tomorrow. Im not sure why, i suppose partly because i know how much it costs the Dodge to put me on this stand and i am terrfied of failing or letting people down. That is my worst fear, i hate the thought of letting anyone down. It is something i have always suffered with, i think that i spartly sometimes feeling like i am not good enough alongside a fear of rejection id the one mental attribute i have suffered my whole life with.

We packed down the moto for a swift get away from the campsite and the traffic to get into the NEC was absolutely awful. Lots of people were quiite close to being late i was terrified of being late so i was there for 08:15. My Outdoor Rev rep didnt get there until 9am so i was stuck outside until then but id rather that than be late. We had great parking spot right outside the front door but the walk to stand was still absolutely miles away! It still took me 15 minutes to get from one end to the other.

I wanted to make a good first impression so i wore my nice Paul Smith work shoes but within about 60 minutes i realised id made a dreadful mistake. My feet were in bits, that an alongside wearing uncomfortable shoes i ripped my jeans being over zealous with a wind break demonstration. Not how i wanted to spend my first day. All in all i sold 5 or 6 awnings and a couple of wind breaks. Everyone who had sold at shows historically said this was a very slow day and they were surprised at how many people there wasn’t there. I hope that is not a sign of things to come
