Welcome to todays diary entry! Shop Refit: Day Two – Blood, Sweat, and Staples. If yesterday felt like the start of something big, today felt like the reality check — the point where the excitement of “we’re doing a shop refit!” gives way to the hard, physical, unglamorous work that makes it happen. And wow… it was a graft.

We kicked the day off on a real high by getting the new lighting installed. I knew it would make a difference, but I wasn’t prepared for how much of a difference it would make. The whole place already looks brighter, more inviting, and more modern. It’s crazy how something as simple as better lighting can completely change the feel of a space, but it does — it lifts the energy, makes the products look better, and really sets the tone for what’s coming.

Once the lights were sorted, we moved straight on to the next major piece of the puzzle: starting to build the new walls and panels. Seeing them going up felt like a big milestone, a real sign that this isn’t just an idea anymore — it’s actually happening.

Then came the tough part — the job we’d all been slightly dreading — lifting the old green carpet. This carpet has been down for years. It’s seen countless seasons, thousands of customers, endless displays, and probably more cups of coffee spilled on it than I care to think about. And judging by how stubborn it was to get up, it clearly had no intention of going quietly. Whoever installed it all those years ago clearly had a deep and passionate love for staples because there were hundreds — maybe thousands — of them holding it in place.

The whole job became a battle of wills: us versus the carpet. Every few inches we’d hit another patch that refused to budge, and every time we thought we’d finished a section, we’d find another layer clinging on for dear life. It was physical, dirty, and slow — the kind of job that leaves your hands scratched, your back aching, and your patience wearing thin. But there’s something strangely satisfying about it too. It’s like peeling back the layers of the past to make way for the future. Every strip we lifted felt like a small victory and a step closer to the transformation we’ve been working towards.

By the end of the day, we’d made some serious progress. A huge chunk of the old carpet is now gone, revealing the bare chipboard floor underneath — and with that cleared, we’re finally ready for the next phase. Tomorrow is going to be another big day: we’ll start laying the new carpet, which will instantly give the space a fresher, more polished look. And once that’s down, we’ll be able to start assembling the first new awning display. That’s when things will really start to come to life.

It’s funny how projects like this always feel a little overwhelming in the early stages. You plan everything meticulously, but when you’re standing in the middle of a half-empty showroom covered in dust, with bits of carpet clinging to your clothes and a mountain of work still to do, it’s easy to wonder how you’re ever going to get it all done. But you do. Bit by bit, inch by inch, staple by staple. And by the end of the day, when you look back at how far you’ve come, there’s a real sense of achievement.

I left tonight completely exhausted — the kind of tired that goes beyond physical and creeps into your bones. But I also left with a real sense of pride. We’re in the messy, gritty middle of this project now, and it’s tough going. But this is the hard work that makes the final reveal so satisfying. By the end of the week, the showroom is going to look completely different — brighter, smarter, more welcoming, and more “us” — and all the dust, sweat, and aching muscles will have been worth it.

Day two might not have been glamorous, but it was essential. And tonight, even with sore hands and an aching back, I can feel the momentum building. The transformation has well and truly begun.
