Welcome to todays diary entry! We didn’t rush this morning, which made such a difference. After weeks of alarms, schedules, and dashing about, it felt good to let the day start at its own pace. Rory woke up giggling and full of beans, Lisa brewed a pot of tea, and we just sat in the motorhome for a while, enjoying the stillness before setting off around 9am. That short window of calm before hitting the road really does set the tone for the rest of the day.
The drive itself was smooth, almost enjoyable. The motorhome felt steady, reliable — exactly what I needed after the rollercoaster of stress I’ve had about it lately. The solar, too, has been behaving perfectly ever since Gaz at the bodyshop worked his magic. I can’t put into words the relief of knowing it’s sorted. It’s funny how something like that can niggle away in the back of your mind all the time, but when it’s fixed, you don’t even think about it. Same with the so-called “leak.”
MOT after MOT has mentioned it since 2018, yet here we are, years later, still happily driving thousands of miles. For all the hours I’ve spent under the van worrying, the truth is it drives like a dream. Today was no different.

When we pulled into the site just after 11am, our pitch wasn’t free yet — check-out wasn’t until midday — so we had an hour to kill. A lot of people would have been grumpy about that, but not us. We wandered into the equestrian centre’s bar, and what was supposed to be one drink turned into a little session.
First a pint, then another, then “just one more.” Before we knew it, it was past 3pm, and we’d spent the whole afternoon chatting away, watching the world go by, and soaking in the atmosphere. There’s something about horses milling about, riders coming and going, and the easy hum of countryside life that makes you feel completely removed from the usual grind.

Eventually, we peeled ourselves away and headed back to the motorhome. Rory had a snack, Lisa tidied up, and I grabbed the rarest of luxuries: an afternoon nap. I don’t know if it’s the long days catching up with me or just the relief of being away, but that little kip felt like heaven. There’s nothing quite like drifting off on the back bed with the sound of the breeze through the vents and knowing you don’t have a list of jobs waiting for you.
In the evening, we’d booked a table back in the bar. The place had a warm buzz to it — families, couples, and a mix of locals and visitors all blending together. I went for the pizza, which came out absolutely loaded with spice. Normally I’d have avoided it, but it turned out to be brilliant, fiery in all the right ways.
Washed down with a cold pint, it was perfect. The entertainment afterwards was easy-going, nothing groundbreaking but exactly what you want after a long day — some music, a few laughs, and that shared holiday feeling that everyone’s in together.
Yes, the air has definitely cooled, the first hints that summer is shifting gear into autumn, but that didn’t spoil a thing. If anything, it added to the cosiness of the evening. We walked back to the motorhome full, content, and with that lovely little glow you only get from a day well spent.
Today wasn’t about ticking things off or racing around — it was about being present, enjoying the time, and reminding ourselves that sometimes the best days are the ones that just unfold without a plan.
